SC Presentes DEARLY BELOVED

SC_Dearly BelovedStagecrafters proudly presents the Jones, Hope, Wooten comedyDEARLY BELOVED. Performances are May 10, 16 & 17 at 8:00 p.m. and May 11 & 18 at 3:00 p.m. at the Sharonville Fine Arts Center, 11164 Reading Road. Directed by Michael L. Morehead, the cast features Betty Coulter, Marcia Grant, Ray Lebowski, Renee Maria, Cynthis Mottel, Elizabeth Beatty Penrod, Nancy Rzonca, Traci Taylor, Eric Thomas and Richard Zenk.

The Futrelle Sisters, Frankie, Honey Raye and Twink, are throwing a wedding. Frankie has almost made herself sick with elaborate preparations for her daughter Tina Jo’s antebellum-inspired wedding, and the rumor mill in their small town of Fayro, Texas, is working overtime. No surprise there, the Futrelle Sisters have never been strangers to gossip. After all, they did survive the scandalous breakup of their almost-famous gospel singing trio, The Sermonettes. In spite of her own marital problems, Frankie has held steadfastly to the hope that she can pull off one “final Futrelle occasion” with elegance and style with the help of the cantankerous wedding coordinator, Miss Geneva, who runs the local floral shop/bus depot. But on the day of the nuptials, Frankie’s hope begins to dim. Will the wedding come off without a hitch and what has Clovis Sanford’s House of Meat got to do with it? Will the Sermonettes reunite? You’ll just have to see this rollicking comedy to find out.

Tickets are $17 or $12 for students with ID and for groups of 10 or more prepaid. For more info or to reserve tickets please use the contact form at http://www.stagecraftersinc.org. For group info only please call (513) 793-6237.

COMEDY TONIGHT Runs May 30-June 7

MLT_Comedy TonightCOMEDY TONIGHT: An Evening with Durang and Ives
Presented by Middletown Lyric Theatre
May 30-June 7
Middletown

Directed by Michael Schlotterbeck & Charley Shafor

FOR WHOM THE SOUTHERN BELLE TOLLS
In this parody of THE GLASS MENAGERIE, the fading Southern belle, Amanda, tries to prepare her hyper-sensitive, hypochondriacal son, Lawrence, for “the feminine caller.” Terrified of people, Lawrence plays with his collection of glass cocktail stirrers. Ginny, the feminine caller, is hard of hearing and overbearingly friendly. Brother Tom wants to go the movies, where he keeps meeting sailors who need to be put up in his room. Amanda tries to face everything with “charm and vivacity,” but sometimes she just wants to hit somebody.

TIME FLIES
Two lonely but sweet young mayflies meet at a pond and really hit it off. Unfortunately, Horace and May watch a nature program on this first night out and discover they have a lifespan of only one day—and their lives are half over.

VARIATIONS ON THE DEATH OF TROTSKY
Shows us the Russian revolutionary on the day of his demise, desperately trying to cope with the mountain-climber’s axe he’s discovered in his head.

UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE
Brings together Dawn, a young woman with a stutter, and Don, the creator and teacher of Unamunda, a wild comic language. Their lesson sends them off into a dazzling display of hysterical verbal pyrotechnics—and, of course, true love.

THE ACTORS NIGHTMARE
Having casually wandered onstage, George is informed that one of the actors, Eddie, has been in an auto accident and he must replace him immediately. Apparently no one is sure of what play is being performed but George (costumed as Hamlet) seems to find himself in the middle of a scene from Private Lives, surrounded by such luminaries as Sarah Siddons, Dame Ellen Terry and Henry Irving. As he fumbles through one missed cue after another the other actors shift to Hamlet, then a play by Samuel Beckett, and then a climactic scene from what might well be A Man for All Seasons—by which time the disconcerted George has lost all sense of contact with his fellow performers. Yet, in the closing moments of the play, he rises to the occasion and finally says the right lines, whereupon make-believe suddenly gives way to reality as the executioner’s axe (meant for Sir Thomas Moore) instead sends poor George to oblivion—denying him a well-earned curtain call.

INTO THE WOODS Opens Next Week at LTC

LTC_logoJack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Cinderella are familiar stories to many people. But what about The Baker and his wife? And who is this narrator? “Into the Woods,” a musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine tells us the stories of these familiar folks.

The Baker and his wife desperately desire a child, so they ask their friendly neighbor, who happens to be a witch, for help. She agrees to help them get the thing they want the most and, in the process, the rest get what they want, too. They should all now “live happily ever after,” but do they? “ Into the Woods” explores the question, “Is getting what you want worth what it costs?”

Lebanon Theatre Company presents this show, sponsored by the First National Bank of Warren County, that many people believe is one of Sondheim’s greatest works. Steven Haines is directing. The cast includes veterans of the LTC stage as well as newcomers. Veterans are Gina Beck, Chris Carter, Amy Edington-King, Melanie Highland, Timothy Larrick, Dance Morey, Karen Oehler, Kurt Percy, BJ Simpson, Bryan Wallingford, and Cindy Wilmes. Making their LTC debut are Brent Hoggatt and Abby Land.

Opening night on May 9, which includes dinner at the Golden Lamb and a ticket to the show, is sold out. Tickets are available for other shows including May 10, 16, & 17 at 8 p.m. and May 11 & 18 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $18 each and can be ordered on line at LTCplays.com or by calling (513) 228-0932. All performances are at the Mechanic Street Playhouse, 10 S. Mechanic, Lebanon, OH.
