MLT Change in Season

MLT_logoMiddletown Lyric Theatre announces a change in the season:

PAINTING CHURCHES by Tina How scheduled to be the final production of the MLT season is being replaced with:

COMEDY TONIGHT: AN EVENING OF FARCE directed by Michael Schlotterbeck & Charley Shafor

The evening will include short plays written by Christopher Durang & David Ives. Scheduled are:

  • FOR WHOM THE SOUTHERN BELLE TOLLS
  • TIME FLIES
  • VARIATIONS ON THE DEATH OF TROTSKY
  • UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE
  • THE ACTOR’S NIGHTMARE

The show runs: May 30, 31 & June 6 & 7, 2014

BPI Seeks Male Actors for Summer Show

BPI_logoThe writer and director of our summer musical, THE JESTER PRINCE, is looking to fill multiple male roles. Rehearsals start May 19, and the performances are August 1-9 at the Anderson Center Theatre. Those interested can contact the writer/director Fred at fred@tacon.net. Available roles:

LESTER THE JESTER (18-25) – Lead role. Likeable joker, but sincerely in love with the princess. Leads a band of misfits to her rescue. Strong singer and actor, good dancer. Great stage presence.

  • TUMBLESTUMP (18-40) – Fearless but clumsy steward. Dreams of becoming a knight. Good singer and actor, capable dancer.
  • SIR ROCCO WRETCHED (20-35) – The bad guy who kidnaps the princess. Strong actor, good singer. Good at being over-the-top, buffoonishly evil.
  • DIVOT / EDGAR WRETCHED (40-60) – Rocco’s timid henchman. Revealed to be Rocco’s father. Good singer and actor. NOTE: The actor playing this role must be capable and comfortable with physical comedy, specifically dropping to and tumbling on the floor.
  • PRINCE VINCE (18-35) – Pompous and wealthy prince. One of the princess’s suitors. Featured role with solos in two songs. Also a part of the ensemble. Good singer, capable actor and dancer.
  • PRINCE DARIN (18-35) – Strong and adventurous prince. One of the princess’s suitors. Featured role with solos in two songs. Also a part of the ensemble. Good singer, capable actor and dancer.

CCM’s SPELLING BEE Earns 4 Star LCT Rating

CCM_25th Annual Putnam CountyPanelists for the League of Cincinnati Theatres (LCT) have recognized the College Conservatory of Music’s production of THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE with a 4 star rating.

In this Tony Award-winning musical. Six young people overseen by grownups who have barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser.

Panelists praised the production as “delightful, smart, silly and a well-structured crowd pleaser”. Director Vince DeGeorge was praised for bringing “a freshness to it with smart directing choices that were spot on”. The entire ensemble was commended: “I appreciated the nuances each performer created for their characters. They worked together seamlessly and we’re having such a good time… The performers were working together as an to create the warmth and charm so inherent in this musical.”

League of Cincinnati Theatre panelists evaluate productions on a 5 star scale and recommend shows at either a 4 star or 5 star level. Nominations for LCT awards will be determined and announced at the end of the season and winners awarded at the annual LCT gala in the spring.

The League of Cincinnati Theatres was founded in 1999 to strengthen, nurture and promote Cincinnati’s theatre community. LCT provides its member companies and individual members with education, resources and services to enhance the quality and exposure of the theatre community in Cincinnati and increase community awareness, attendance and involvement.
