JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT Runs Jan. 31-Feb. 10

CU_JosephJOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT
Presented by Cedarville University
Jan. 31-Feb. 10
Cedarville

Reviews: Dayton City Paper |

Directed by Rebecca Baker

The biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to vibrant life in this delightful musical parable. Joseph, his father’s favorite son, is a boy blessed with prophetic dreams. When he is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers and taken to Egypt, Joseph endures a series of adventures in which his spirit and humanity are continually challenged. He is purchased by Potiphar, falsely accused by Potiphar’s wife, and thrown into jail. When news of Joseph’s gift to interpret dreams reaches the Pharaoh, Joseph is well on the way to becoming second in command. Eventually his brothers, having suffered greatly, find themselves begging at the feet of the brother they betrayed but no longer recognize. The family is brought back together as the story of forgiveness unfolds. Set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles, from countrywestern and calypso to 50s rock ‘n’ roll, this Old Testament tale emerges both timely and timeless.

AACTFest on Jan. 18-19

OCTA_logoAs you might know the Ohio AACTFest will be held here in Cincinnati at Seton High School on January 18th & 19th. Over the past years, the SW region has requested that the state AACTFest should not be held in February because too many shows happen locally during that month. So the excerpts have been moved to January. Now we need YOUR SUPPORT. We need you to come see three great excerpts which will start about 1:15 on Saturday. Remember each excerpt can be an hour in length for the AACTFEST so please join us and show the SW region spirit.

The three excerpts will be:

  • The Drama Workshops, JERRY FINNEGAN’S SISTER
  • MTVArts, HIDDEN IN THE PICTURE
  • Alcove Theatre. CLOSER

There will also be a special preview of an excerpt which was made into a movie. The directors will share some insights about how the film was made.

You are also invited to participate in a computer workshop “Wisely Using the Computer for your theatre” on Saturday morning at Elder High School. This is FREE if you attend the AACTFest or only $10 if you only come to the workshop. Jesse Bernal and Gary Rogers will moderate the workshop.

Have you ever thought about becoming an adjudicator for the OCTA regional festivals? Now is the time to get the training or renew your skills if you were a previous responder. There will be a workshop beginning with the training session at 9:30 AM at Midway School, continuing as the excerpts are viewed and then completing the training with a discussion session after the last show. This is only $10 added to the basic registration. You will get more details when you sign up.

Lastly, ACT-Cincinnati is sponsoring the welcoming party on Friday evening at Dunham Recreation Center and you are invited to come an meet the OCTA board and the actors/crew from the shows. Please contact Peggy Kenney for more details, makenney127@gmail.com. At the last ACT meeting, all SW groups were asked to donate $15 to help offset the cost of this event. There are still some groups who have not given this money. Please send your check made payable to ACT to Joy Sharp. She will then forward the money to the AACTfest committee chair.

Below is a special registration form for local people. We would love for you to join us so please look at the form but act quickly because the deadline is January 10th.

Hope to see you soon,

Peggy Kenney
AACTFest Chair and SW regional OCTA rep
