Behind The Curtain: 2012 in Review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

19,000 people fit into the new Barclays Center to see Jay-Z perform. This blog was viewed about 98,000 times in 2012. If it were a concert at the Barclays Center, it would take about 5 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

trueCINCINNATI on Jan. 7

TT_TrueCincinnatitrueCINCINNATI
Presented by trueTHEATRE
Jan. 7
Over-the-Rhine

Whether you call it “Porkopolis” or “the ‘Nati,” it’s our favorite city and our home. Help us pay homage to it on January 7, when you will hear from a man who grew up in the kitchen of LaRosa’s and now serves as it’s CEO, a daring fellow who has lived on BOTH the east and west sides of town and has lived to tell the tale, and an employee of the Public Library who faced a challenge much bigger than she bargained for (but, thanks to it, we have the beautiful image you see on our poster!). Plus, a college student gives a guided tour of a side of Cincinnati most of us never see. All this and a story from Channel 12 personality and dancing machine Bob Herzog! Join us on January 7 and raise a glass to the Queen City with us! Note: Most shows sell out in advance.

DTG Announces Cast of GHOSTS

DTGDayton Theatre Guild has announced the cast for their upcoming production of GHOSTS by Henrik Ibsen.

A brilliant new translation by Christopher Hampton breathes new life into this classic drama. The ‘‘ghosts’’ in this play are taboo topics that cannot be openly discussed. This drama is one of Ibsen’s most powerful works, but also one of his most controversial. Family sins are revisited when a son returns home to dedicate an orphanage in his father’s name and becomes involved in a tryst that ends in the painful knowledge of long suppressed family truths.

The cast includes:

  • Mrs Alving: Lisa Howard-Welch
  • Osvald Alving: Jared Mola
  • Pastor Manders: Chuck Larkowski
  • Jakob Enstrand: Dave Nickel
  • Regine Enstrand: Angela Timpone

GHOSTS is directed by Matthew W. Smith and runs Jan. 11-27. For more information visit www.daytontheatreguild.org.

GHCT Announces Cast for THE RED VELVET CAKE WAR

GHCTGreater Hamilton Civic Theatre has announced the cast for their upcoming production of THE RED VELVET CAKE WAR.

In this riotously funny Southern-fried comedy, the three Verdeen cousins—Gaynelle, Peaches and Jimmie Wyvette—could not have picked a worse time to throw their family reunion. As a parade of wildly eccentric Verdeens gather on the hottest day of July, smack-dab in the middle of Texas tornado season, things spin hilariously out of control when a neighbor’s pet devours everything edible, a one-eyed suitor shows up to declare his love and a jaw-dropping high-stakes wager is made on who bakes the best red velvet cake. As this fast-paced romp barrels toward its uproarious climax, you’ll wish your own family reunions were this much fun!

The cast includes:

  • Cee Cee Windham – Petty Cash
  • Gaynelle Verdeen – Julie Joyce Smith
  • Lamerle Minshew – Lynn Minges
  • Aubrey Verdeen – Dick Gentry
  • Jimmie Wyvette Verdeen – Maggie Macgregor
  • Peaches Verdeen Belrose – Beth McClain

  • Elsa Dowdall – Sharon Einhorn
  • Mama Doll Hargis – Linda Hurley
  • Newt Blaylock – Joey Schnell
  • Sheriff Grover Lout – Justyn Rampa
  • Purvis Verdeen – Adam Blount
