Women in Theatre (WIT) and St. John UCC in Bellevue, Ky. Combine Forces for WALTER CRONKITE IS DEAD

Donna Hoffman, Director of WIT.

WIT-Women in Theatre, a professional, non-union, acting company, and St. John United Church of Christ at 520 Fairfield Ave., Bellevue, KY, are co-producing the first of many stage productions.

The first offering is WALTER CRONKITE IS DEAD by Joe Calarco, a comedy/drama that, according to Dramatist Play Service, “expertly unspools two very different stories not to pick at where they conflict but instead to lay bare where they closely align.” Patty (played by Cate White) is chatty and is almost incapable of silence. Margaret (played by Cat Cook) has no intention of sharing her thoughts or her table. The conversation and action that pursues is funny, difficult, deeply revealing and astonishingly frank. Yes, Walter Cronkite is dead, but his wisdom and compassion lives on.

Mr. Calarco wrote CRONKITE primarily because of his concern for the lack of civil discourse in our society.

Donna Hoffman, the Director of WIT-Women in Theatre, formed the acting troupe in 2012 because of the lack of plays featuring substantial, non-stereotypical roles for women and she wanted to direct plays written by, for, and about women. Ms. Hoffman has a BFA in Theatre/Performance and Directing, a BA in English Literature, an MEd in Secondary Education, and Special Certification to teach Gifted and Talented people

WALTER CRONKITE IS DEAD opens on Friday, April 25, at 8:00pm. The doors open at 7:30pm on the parking lot side of the building. Subsequent performances are on Saturday, April 26, Friday, May 2, and Saturday, May 3.

A special performance in the sanctuary of the church is on Sunday, April 27, at 1:00 pm with the doors open at 12:30pm. This special performance is for those who cannot do steps and those with hearing impairment. This performance will be signed for the deaf.

The cost of this professional performance is only $15. And, if you bring a piece of luggage that is bigger than a carry-on to any of the Friday or Saturday night performances you will get a rebate of $5 at the door. This offer applies only to those who order their tickets in advance by phone or email.

Order your tickets by calling the box office at 859-441-6882 or by emailing wit.women.in.theatre@gmail.com.

Auditions for LYSISTRATA on Nov. 28

When Aristophanes wrote LYSISTRATA around 413 B.C., it was a comedy hit. The modern English translation of this rollicking play is still laugh-out-loud funny. WIT, a new acting troupe, will perform LYSISTRATA January 19, 25, 26, 2013, at the First Unitarian Church.

AUDITIONS will be held at the First Unitarian Church, 536 Linton Street, Cincinnati, OH 45209, November 28, at 7 p.m. Please bring a headshop and an acting resume. Auditions will be cold reads.

MALES should look somewhere between 25 and 85 years of age. There is an abundance of male roles. Here’s your chance to be: an armed guard, a herald, a magistrate, an ambassador or delegate, a slave or attendant, the leader of the men’s chorus or a member of the non-singing Greek Chorus.

FEMALES should also look like adults in the same age range. The major roles have been cast. There are opportunities to be a member of the Greek Chorus or to have a secondary role.

Note to potential auditioners : The original acting ensemble looked Greek and spent a lot of time partially or fully nude on stage. You don’t need to look Greek. You will wear a costume .

Want to know more before the audition, you can contact Director Donna Hoffman at sumytra@gmail.com.
