TDW Seeks Directors for 2014-2015 Season

TDW_VERTThe Drama Workshop is scheduling director interviews for the 2014 – 2015 season. We will produce a season consisting of 4-5 shows in the new Glenmore Playhouse beginning in the fall of 2014.

TDW has a list of 15 plays that are under consideration by the TDW board for the 2014 – 2015 season. We encourage potential directors to read any or all of the plays under consideration. To obtain the list of plays contact Gretchen Gantner (contact info below). It is not necessary to read all of the plays to apply for a directorship.

***This year we are asking our director candidates to pitch one additional “wild card” show of your choosing, suitable for attracting a wide audience in our theater space. These can be a holiday show, musical, comedy, drama, children’s show etc, but should be of a big-draw, widely known caliber. ***

We are asking that interested potential directors attend a scheduled interview at The Glenmore Playhouse.

Interviews will be conducted in early/mid November. Should you wish to schedule an interview time, please contact Gretchen Gantner at 513.470.5516 or at GRoose1876@aol.com.

NUNSENSE Comes to Cheviot Stage

(Cheviot, Ohio) The Drama Workshop, the award-winning community theater based at Cheviot’s Glenmore Playhouse, is excited to open Dan Goggin’s highly acclaimed musical, NUNSENSE, on Friday, October 4. The production is directed by Lizanne Ingram, with musical direction by Linda Abbot and choreography by Lauren Kinker, and is co-produced by Megan Schultheis and Gretchen Gantner.

NUNSENSE begins when the Little Sisters of Hoboken discover that their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, has accidentally poisoned 52 of the sisters, and they are in dire need of funds for the burials. The sisters decide that the best way to raise the money is to put on a variety show, so they take over the school auditorium, which is currently set up for the eighth grade production of “Grease.” Here we meet Reverend Mother Regina (Dianna Davis), a former circus performer; Sister Mary Hubert (Karen Sowards), the Mistress of Novices; a streetwise nun from Brooklyn named Sister Robert Anne (Amy Waldfogle); Sister Mary Leo (Kate Stark), a novice who is a wannabe ballerina; and the delightfully wacky Sister Mary Amnesia (Catherine Shultz), the nun who lost her memory when a crucifix fell on her head. Featuring star turns, tap and ballet dancing, an audience quiz, and comic surprises, this show has become an international phenomenon with more than 5000 productions worldwide.

Amy Waldfogle is appearing in her second TDW show, having previously been seen in last year’s “Snoopy” as Peppermint Patty. “This is a funny, silly, have a good time show. It’s also kind of a love letter to the Church and to the men and women who dedicate their lives to it.”

She’s thrilled to be back on the TDW stage. She explained, “From the moment I first showed up for what was supposed to be a one time helping out as a favor to a friend, TDW has treated me like a long time, much loved member.”

Show dates for NUNSENSE are October 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, and 19 at 8 pm. Matinee performances will be offered on October 6, 13, and 20 at 2 pm. Tickets may be ordered through the TDW ticket line at 598-8303, or online at www.thedramaworkshop.org. All seats are $15.00. Sellout houses are occurring frequently, so reservations are strongly encouraged.

For an additional $35, patrons can convert their single-show ticket for NUNSENSE into a TDW 2013-2014 season ticket. Additional productions this year include “A 1940’s Radio Christmas Carol” (December), “12 Angry Men” (March), and “Suite Surrender” (May).

THE DRAMA WORKSHOP was founded in 1954. TDW is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to advancing education and promotion of the theatrical arts. Based at the newly renovated Glenmore Playhouse in Cheviot, The Drama Workshop is widely recognized as one of greater Cincinnati’s most accomplished community theater organizations, garnering dozens of awards annually from the Cincinnati Association of Community Theatres. TDW productions have been regularly selected to represent the Southwest Ohio region at the Ohio Community Theatre Association annual conference, and TDW was also honored to represent the state of Ohio at the American Association of Community Theatre conference in 2013. Prospective members, and individuals or businesses interested in becoming involved or in helping advance TDW’s mission are encouraged to contact the group through our website at www.thedramaworkshop.org, or by phone at 513-598-8303.

LOVE RIDES THE RAILS For One More Weekend

TDW_Love Rides the Rails1(CHEVIOT, OHIO) The Drama Workshop’s production of “Love Rides the Rails” is on track for one more weekend at The Glenmore Playhouse this coming weekend. The show opened to large audiences opening weekend, selling out Saturday night. Ticket sales for the remaining performances are brisk.

“Love Rides the Rails” is an old-style melodrama, with strong heroes, lovely damsels in distress, and dastardly villains who will do anything to con a widow out of her stake in the Cheviot, Westwood and Dent Railroad. It’s family-friendly fare that will delight people of all ages.

Audiences from the opening weekend raved about the production. Milford resident Renee Maria gushed, “What a fun experience from the minute we walked into the lobby! Thank you!” Fellow patron Deb Joyner Dennemann agreed. “This was a great matinee,” she said. “We had the best time. What a fun day! This was the first time we’ve been here, but we will go to the Glenmore Playhouse again!”

Part of the excitement for “Love Rides the Rails” is that TDW encourages the audience to participate in the fun. Patrons will be coached to boo at the villains, and cheer the heroes during the performance. Pre-show activities includes face-painting for the kids (so you can get your own dastardly mustache) and a photo booth. Popcorn is available before the show and during intermission for use as ‘ammunition’ to throw at the villains during the performance.

“Love Rides the Rails” continues August 9 through 11. Showtimes are 8 pm on August 9 and 10; matinees will be held August 10 and 11 at 2 pm. All tickets are $15, and reservations are strongly recommended. Tickets may be reserved through the TDW ticket line at 513.598.8303 or through the website at www.thedramaworkshop.org.

Season tickets are also available at the price of $50 for a four-show package, or $60 for a five-show package. Interested parties may inquire at the TDW ticket line, listed above. Other shows in TDW’s 2013-2014 season are Nunsense (October 2013), A 1940’s Radio Christmas Carol (December 2013), Twelve Angry Men (March 2014), and Suite Surrender (May 2014).
