Character Descriptions from the publisher

We may cast more than the four cast members listed below, and divide up the songs accordingly.

Man #1 – Baritone  He sings many standards, should have a feel for phrasing of this distinctive vocal style, and sing harmony. He should move well; tap dance optional.  He should be able to relate well to the audience and possess the charisma to bring them along on this two-hour musical journey into the world of “cool.”

Man #2 – Lyric Baritone/Tenor (sings up to G).  Smooth easy vocal style. Man #2 should also have a natural and unaffected flair for comedy as he carries much of the show’s humor and lighter moments. He spends much of the show trying to learn how to be “cool.” Moves well.

Woman #1 – Mezzo soprano who can also belt. Female version of the “Rat Pack,” classy, and sophisticated.   Her vocal style is based on great “torch singers” like Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne, and Judy Garland.  This actress sings through a wide range vocally and must also be a capable part singer. She should move well.

Woman #2 – Mezzo/Soprano who is a capable part singer.    Vocally this character needs to have the big band style of the 1940’s. She should have a smile that lights up the room and be energetic, represented by celebrities like Lauren Bacall, Marilyn Monroe, Ava Gardner, and Mia Farrow. This role should be a strong dancer, and tap skills are a plus.
