The Imperial Presents: MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS On Dec. 11

A Live Radio Play Performance by The Anti-Pestilence League

The Imperial Theatre Mohawk Alliance (ITMA) welcomes The Anti-Pestilence League (APL) back to The Imperial Presents series following their recent Cincinnati BroadwayWorld Cincinnati Award nominations (place your votes here).

The APL will present a live performance of the radio drama inspired by the 1944 MGM classic Meet Me in St. Louis. The adaptation captures the story of the Smith family as they navigate life, love, and the excitement surrounding the 1904 World’s Fair. Styled after mid-century broadcast performances, the piece blends narration, character voices, and Foley sound effects to evoke the warmth and nostalgia of the original film.

This performance will take place Thursday, December 11th at 7:30pm at Wooden Cask Brewing Company (629 York Street, Newport, KY), a new location for ITMA’s programming.

The APL has a long history with ITMA. Founded during the COVID-19 pandemic by Harley Quinn Studios, the ensemble first appeared in ITMA’s Salon Series before moving to the main stage at OTR StillHouse—a double feature that earned them five Cincinnati BroadwayWorld Award nominations. Their return to The Imperial Presents marks a continuation of this creative partnership and the evolution of their popular live radio programming.

The cast includes Lisa Dirkes, Bill Keeton, Karolina Prokop, Dan Robertson, Elizabeth Leigh Taylor, Faith Von Handorf, Samantha Joy Weil, and Ted Weil.

APL Commissioner and Harley Quinn Studios founder Katrina “Kat” Reynolds, a lifelong fan of classic radio, continues to lead the ensemble in the studio’s mission to create spaces “where the voices in your head come to play.”

A heartfelt celebration of family, tradition, and the holidays, this live radio reading offers audiences a timeless seasonal story brought to life on stage.

Tickets for this ONE NIGHT ONLY event are limited and can be purchased here.

Saturday, October 11th: The Anti-Pestilence League Presents…!

As part of Know Theatre of Cincinnati’s octKNOWber Nights event, The Anti-Pestilence League (or The APL) will be serving audience members a “double dose of dread” with their live performance of two classic radio play episodes: SUSPENSE: Fugue in C Minor and THE WHISTLER: A Matter of Patience. Fugue is an eerie tale of a widower whose house seems to hold secrets in the pipes of the massive organ around which it was built while Patience tells the story of a frustrated husband who decides to take his wife’s health matters into his own hands.

This Samhain-inspired evening will feature the talents of Jeremiah Plessinger, Karolina Prokop, Faith Vonhandorf, Ted and Samantha Joy Weil, Lisa D. Dirkes, and the incomparable Bill Keeton.

Tickets to this and all other octKNOWber Nights offerings can be purchased here.

^The Anti-Pestilence League was born out of artistic frustration during the beginning stages of COVID-19. Harley Quinn Studios decided to gather a group of artists to perform old-timey radio dramas (and comedies!) as a way to entertain themselves while keeping a safe distance from one another. While the group began with recordings, the goal was always to incorporate live performances when the world was safe enough to accommodate them. APL Commissioner and Founder of Harley Quinn Studios Katrina “Kat” Reynolds, a life-long fan of radio shows, has always enjoyed using her voice for both good and evil; therefore, she and this COVID baby were the perfect match. Featuring the talents of regular company members such as Jeremiah Plessinger and Karolina Prokop as well as some warmly welcomed guest artists, the APL lives up to Harley Quinn Studios’ mantra in providing a space “where the voices in your head come to play”.

The Anti-Pestilence League Brings Some Holiday Cheer To Your Ears This December

APL_logoThe Anti-Pestilence League, Harley Quinn Studios’ COVID baby, has done it again with its second installment. This time around, director and APL commissioner, Kat Reynolds, takes us on yet another old timey radio journey with an appropriately Christmas-themed episode from the classic series, OUR MISS BROOKS. Reynolds had this to say about the APL’s choice for a second episode: “While not everyone celebrates Christmas proper, this particular go reminds us humour is in style during ANY season.” The holiday episode is scheduled to be released before 12pm on December 24th, 2020.

As before, this latest offering is being provided for free online to all fans of the Harley Quinn Studios Facebook page. Not yet a fan? Well, you should be!

Visit https://www.facebook.com/HarleyQuinnStudios and “like” the page for this and various other artistic projects.

OUR MISS BROOKS debuted on radio in 1948 and both it and the television show, which debuted in 1952, ran concurrently until the series ended in 1956. OMB presented a plausible and a terribly realistic slice of life that earned many laughs and the admiration of the students and teachers in all of us. CONNIE’S LETTER TO SANDY CLAWSSS features the vocal talents of regular company members Betsy Bossart, Allen Lindsey, Jeremiah Plessinger, and Karolina Prokop. Newcomers Lisa D. Dirkes and Evan Koons help round out this talented cast with their vocal stylings. Both original and new cast members will be back for the APL’s third project, scheduled to be released in February 2021.

In the words of Harley Quinn Studios’ founder, we wish you a Merry Chrismachanukwanzukah and the happiest of New Years!
