Auditions Announced for CHRISTMAS BELLES at Mariemont Players

Mariemont Players Announces Auditions For CHRISTMAS BELLES

MPI_logoDirector Merritt Beischel will hold auditions for the Mariemont Players production of CHRISTMAS BELLES, a comedy by Jamie Wooten, Jessie  Jones and Nicholas Hope, at the Walton Creek Theater, 4101 Walton Creek Road (just east of Mariemont) at 7:00pm on Sunday, July 12th and at 7:00pm on Monday, July 13th, 2015. Callbacks, if needed, will be held at 7:00pm on Tuesday, July 14th.

It’s Christmas time in the small town of Fayro, Texas, and the Futrelle Sisters — Frankie, Twink and Honey Raye — are not exactly in a festive mood. Their church Christmas program is spinning hilariously out of control thanks to squabbling siblings, family secrets, a surly Santa, a vengeful sheep, and a reluctant Elvis impersonator. But in true Futrelle fashion, the feuding sisters find a way to pull together in order to present a holiday program the citizens of Fayro will never forget.

The cast consists of 7 women and 4 men. See below for character descriptions with approximate stage ages.

All roles are open. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Since this show is set in a small Texas town, all of the characters will speak with a Texan accent.

Rehearsals will begin in mid-September. The production will be staged November 6th through November 22nd, 2015.

For more information, contact the director at merrittbeischel@gmail.com.

Character descriptions with approximate stage ages:

  • MISS GENEVA MUSGRAVE, town florist with a take-charge attitude, sings Christmas-song solo (60s or 70s)
  • HONEY RAYE FUTRELLE, oldest Futrelle sister, a sexy and vivacious go-getter, having hot flashes (early 50s)
  • TWINK FUTRELLE, middle Futrelle sister, currently incarcerated for ex-boyfriend-related arson (40s)
  • FRANKIE FUTRELLE DUBBERLY, youngest Futrelle sister, enormously pregnant with her second round of twins (40s)
  • DUB DUBBERLY, Frankie’s husband, long-suffering and working as a store Santa (40s)
  • GINA JO (G.J.) DUBBERLY, Frankie and Dub’s daughter, sincere, naive and helpful (20s)
  • JOHN CURTIS BUNTNER, deputy sheriff, law-abiding but fair, has affinity for Elvis (40s)
  • JUSTIN WAVERLY, Interim Pastor at the Tabernacle of the Lamb, in love with G.J.  (20s)
  • RHONDA LYNN LAMPLEY, manager of The Dairy Dog, eternally positive and well-meaning (50s)
  • RAYNERD CHISUM, part-time employee at The Dairy Dog, always wears a an ear-flap cap and pulls a little red wagon (40s-50s)
  • PATSY PRICE, local society matron, well-coiffed, not a fan of the Futrelles, sings a song “under the influence” (50s)

Auditions Announced for SIX DANCE LESSONS IN SIX WEEKS at Mariemont Players

Mariemont Players Announces Auditions For Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks

MPI_logoDirector Skip Fenker will hold open auditions for the Mariemont Players production of SIX DANCE LESSONS IN SIX WEEKS, a comedy/drama by Richard Alfieri, at 7:00pm on Sunday, May 31st and at 7:00pm on Monday, June 1st, at the Walton Creek Theatre, 4101 Walton Creek Road, Cincinnati, OH 45227 (just east of Mariemont).

SIX DANCE LESSONS IN SIX WEEKS is a touching and human comedy about a formidable retiree, who hires an acerbic dance instructor to give her private dance lessons — one per week for six weeks in her beachfront condo. What begins as an antagonistic relationship blossoms into an intimate friendship as these two very different people reveal their secrets, fears and joys while dancing. Ultimately they learn to overcome their outward differences and discover an unlikely but profound connection.

This charming comedy features a cast of two:

  • LILY HARRISON – an aging but still stylish and attractive Southern Baptist retiree. She is formidable, stubborn and outspoken. Stage age: 70s.
  • MICHAEL MINETTI – an acerbic, former Broadway chorus boy turned dance instructor. He is charming, impulsive and suffers from chronic foot-in-mouth disease. Stage age: 40s.

Both roles are open. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. A dance audition will be a part of the callback auditions on Wednesday, June 3rd.

Rehearsals will begin in mid-July. The production will be staged September 11th through September 27th, 2015.
