In the wake of tragedy, mythology meets a search for answers.

A local tragedy disrupts what began as a perfectly ordinary morning in the Miller’s typical suburban kitchen. This strange occurrence allows mother Elizabeth and son Bailey only a few hours in which to reconnect. But things get stranger still with fragmented news reports that won’t long be silenced, the appearance of a talkative three-headed dog, and a refrigerator that will not sit still. Mixing mythological elements with a contemporary setting, playwright Steve Yockey explores tragedy, loss, and the way love can blind us to the truth in this poignant and evocative new script, presented as part of a National New Play Network Rolling world premiere.

Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls of legal age, step right up to the most trampy and glamorous, biggest little, dirtiest clean vaudeville show on earth! Lola van Ella Productions and Sammy the Tramp from St. Louis, MO are returning to Cincinnati with their world famous burlesque troupe in tow for the fourth year in a row. The vaudevillian revelry will take place on Know Theatre’s mainstage December 4-6, 2013. Get your tickets soon; this sexy hootenanny will sell out.

THE LADY AND THE TRAMP VAUDEVILLE SHOW features Lola van Ella and Sammy Tramp, a dynamic duo from St. Louis, known around the world for their dazzling stage productions (including the Beggar’s Carnivale and the Show Me Burlesque Festival and Tour), humor, charisma, wit and bawdy behavior. Expect a whole lot of song and dance, a little striptease, some clever (and not so clever) magic, a little sideshow, and tons of fun for the whole family…that are 18 and older.

“The folks from the Beggar’s Carnivale have become part of the Know Theatre family,” says Eric Vosmeier, Producing Artistic Director. “This is the fourth year we’ve presented their show and we’re thrilled to have them back again. The show is pure, unadulterated fun….for adults.”

Featuring Annie Kalahurka

After seeing her fiancé kiss another woman at the televised Thanksgiving Day Parade, Mary’s life falls apart – just in time for the holidays. Over the next year, she stumbles back into the dating world, where “romance” ranges from weird and creepy to absurd and comical. It seems nothing can help Mary’s growing cynicism, until the charm and innocence of a five-year-old boy unexpectedly brings a new outlook on life and love. This heartwarming one-woman play offers a hilarious and modern alternative to the old standards of the holiday season.

BULL Quick-Review

George Alexander as Carter, Kate Glasheen as Isobel, Dylan Shelton as Thomas & Jay Stratton as Tony

BULL presented by Know Theatre of Cincinnati through Nov. 30

Director Brian Robertson leads a strong ensemble (George Alexander as Carter, Kate Glasheen as Isobel, Dylan Shelton as Thomas & Jay Stratton as Tony) through this excellent production. What begins with workplace school-yardish bullying quickly and naturally evolves into something shocking and much darker in an intense 50 minutes. Clever use of florescent lighting and a cage-like set, both by Andrew Hungerford, serves as a great platform for show.

KTC’s BULL Earns 4 Star Rating from LCT

BULL, a companion piece by Mike Bartlett to the play COCK, which was produced by the Know Theatre last year, explores the hazards of office life in a cut-throat economy.

Panelists found the play “funny, sharp, and brutal…the playwright creates characters that speak truthfully about the human condition which sometimes is not pleasant to see or hear.” The entire ensemble was praised for their performance, which was “delicious to watch… The verbal repartee was conducted with a refreshing briskness.”

So, to paraphrase, no bull, know BULL at the Know.

BULLcontinues through November 30th. Tickets can be purchased at http://www.knowtheatre.com/.

League of Cincinnati Theatre panelists evaluate productions on a 5 star scale and recommend shows at either a 4 star or 5 star level. Nominations for LCT awards will be determined and announced at the end of the season and winners awarded at the annual LCT gala in the spring.
