Auditons Announced for BACK TO OUR ROOTS Cabaret at INNOVAtheatre

INNOV_logoIn conjunction with Pride month and in celebration of our mission statement, INNOVAtheatre is excited to announce auditions for our July 1 cabaret, BACK TO OUR ROOTS.

Auditions will take place at the Sorg Opera House on April 17 and 18, 2023, 7:00-9:30 PM. Please prepare 1 minute each of two musical theatre songs that you would like to sing for the cabaret which showcase your talent and how you embody INNOVAtheatre’s mission of inclusivity, diversity, and unexpected talent. Please fill out the Google Form prior to your audition at this link: https://tinyurl.com/INNOVA-Cabaret-2023

The directors will decide which song you will perform for the event. If you are using a track, please make sure it is edited to approximately one minute in length. If you want live piano accompaniment, bring your music clearly marked with cuts.

We will schedule one or two nights of rehearsal time for a group number for the finale of the show, “Raise You Up” from Kinky Boots, based on availability. There will also be two dress rehearsals on June 29 and June 30, half the soloists per evening. More rehearsals may be scheduled with individual singers if necessary. Please bring a list of conflicts to the audition.

We will also accept video audition submissions–please send your audition to INNOVAtheatre@gmail.com, with your name and song titles in the subject line.

Dad’s an architect; Mom rushes to pack lunches and pour cereal; their daughter and son are bright, wise-cracking teens, appearing to be a typical American family. And yet their lives are anything but normal because the mother has been battling manic depression for 16 years. Next to Normal will take you into the minds and hearts of each character, presenting their family’s story with love, sympathy and heart.

Is a father-son relationship — viewed through the window of the family car. Written by Los Angeles playwright Jim Geoghan has been dubbed a “front porch play.” “It’s a rite-of-passage story, a sweet comedic “memory play”. Jim Geoghan, a seasoned playwright whose work has been commissioned by the Actor’s Theatre of Louisville, has received both Emmy and Drama Desk award nominations over the years. He has also written for Disney’s “Suite Life of Zach and Cody.” This play was based on his life and relationship with his own father.

Auditions Announced for NEXT TO NORMAL at INNOVAtheatre

INNOV_logoIt’s that time again! We are so excited to announce auditions for the next musical in our season, NEXT TO NORMAL.

The 2008 smash hit, American rock musical with book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt. The story centers on a mother who struggles with worsening bipolar disorder and the effects that managing her illness has on her family. The musical addresses the depth of mental illness, ethics in modern psychiatry and the underbelly of suburban life.

Dec. 19 & 20 from 7-9pm

Production dates: Feb. 16-19
