Auditions Announced for JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT at Footlighters, Inc.

Audition Requirements

  1. Please prepare 32 bars of a contemporary musical theatre song.  Children auditioning for the children’s chorus may prepare any song of their choosing not to exceed 1 minute.
  2. Dance audition. There will be a dance audition taught after the vocal audition. Please bring clothes you can move in.  Children auditioning for the children’s chorus + actors only auditioning for the role of Jacob/Potiphar will not be required to attend the dance audition.
  3.  Please bring a resume/headshot and any conflicts from September 2024–December 2024. Note: Saturday, December 21 (closing weekend) will have an afternoon show at 2 p.m. as well as an evening show at 7:30 p.m.

Footlighters, Inc. is a community theatre organization that performs at the Stained Glass Theatre in Newport, KY.  These roles are not paid.

Note: Performers auditioning for the children’s chorus must be a minimum of 8 years old to audition.  Performers auditioning for the Narrator, Joseph, Brothers, etc must be 18+.

Character Descriptions:

  • Narrator (Female, Soprano with extended mix/belt, Stage Age 25-45): A character not of the time or place of the action. The Narrator tells the story through song, guiding the audience joyfully through the story of Joseph and his brothers.  Must work well with children.
  • Joseph (Male, Tenor, Stage Age 20-35): Eleventh son of Jacob. His father’s favorite, Joseph early on shows a talent for interpreting dreams and telling the future. Genuine, hopeful.
  • Jacob/Potiphar (Male, Baritone, Stage Age 45-65): The father of twelve sons, his favorite being Joseph. At times he may appear unfair and shallow, but he is, more importantly, the prophet who recognizes the future and the calling of Joseph. Doubles as Potiphar.
  • Mrs. Potiphar (Female, Mezzo Soprano, Stage Age 25-45): Beautiful but evil, Mrs. Potiphar tries to seduce Joseph, but is unsuccessful. Also plays one of the wives. Dance solo.
  • Baker (Male, Baritone, Stage Age 30-45): One of Pharaoh’s servants, the Baker is in prison with Joseph, who correctly interprets his dreams and predicts that he will be put to death. Played by one of the brothers.
  • Butler (Male, Baritone, Stage Age 30-50): Another of Pharaoh’s servants, the Butler  tells Pharaoh about Joseph and his uncanny ability with dreams. Played by one of the brothers.
  • Pharaoh (Male, Baritone, Stage Age 40-60): The most powerful man in Egypt, Pharaoh is considered a god on earth. When Joseph interprets his dreams, he promotes him to one of the highest positions in his government. Pharaoh will be portrayed as an Elvis Presley-style figure. Confident. Excellent vocalist.
  • Joseph’s Brothers (Male or Female, Stage Ages 19-45)
    • Reuban: Sings lead on “One More Angel in Heaven”
    • Simeon: Sings lead on “Those Canaan Days”
    • Levi
    • Judah: Sings lead on “Benjamin Calypso”
    • Dan
    • Naphtali
    • Gad
    • Asher
    • Issachar
    • Zebulun
    • Benjamin: Youngest son of Jacob. Joseph accuses him of stealing the golden cup.
  • The Wives (6, Female, Stage Ages 20-40): The actresses playing the wives also double as Ishmaelites, Egyptians, and servants of Potiphar.
  •  Children’s Chorus (6-8 children, Ages 8-14).

Auditions Announced for THE DROWSY CHAPERONE at Footlighters, Inc.

FLI_logoTHE DROWSY CHAPERONE, directed by Dennis Murphy, will be brought to life at Footlighters’ Stained Glass Theatre this fall, with performances running September 19 – October 6, 2024.

Auditions:

Location: The Stained Glass Theatre 802 York Street, Newport, KY 41071

Synopsis:
With the houselights down, a man in a chair appears on stage and puts on his favorite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. The recording comes to life and The Drowsy Chaperone begins as the man in the chair looks on. Mix in two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan, and an intoxicated chaperone, and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight.

The air-headed, proper, and bossy host of the wedding.

Mrs. Tottendale’s savvy butler who is thrifty and stiff yet has an understated sense of humor.

The dashing, ever-cheerful groom; played by matinee-idol Percy Hyman. Must be a strong tap dancer.

Robert’s anxious, dim-witted best man who has Robert’s best interest always at heart. A strong tap dancer is needed.

Auditions Announced for Bruiser & Rufus in LEGALLY, BLONDE at Footlighters, Inc.

FLI_logoCalling all dogs!  Footlighters announces dog auditions for “Legally Blonde the Musical”: The Search for Bruiser & Rufus.

Does your dog have what it takes to take the stage by pink storm?  Does their performance in the neighborhood give your friends and family “paws”?  Well, bring them down to the Stained Glass Theatre in Newport, KY on Sunday, March 24 at 2:00 p.m. to strut their stuff at our dog auditions! Footlighters has cast the human roles and now we’re ready to cast the real stars – the dogs!  We are seeking two dogs and their owners/guardians to volunteer to be part of our upcoming production of “Legally Blonde the Musical.”

Both dogs need to be house trained, spayed/neutered (we don’t want any casting couch shenanigans!), and have a relaxed and easy-going temperament.  They should be comfortable around large groups of people, loud noises and music, bright lights, and other dogs.

ROLES:

Bruiser – Elle Woods’ lap dog such as a Chihuahua, Pomeranian, Terrier, etc.  Appears in multiple scenes and will need to be able to:

  • Bark on command
  • Run out on stage off leash
  • Be picked up and carried around
  • Respond to commands from the actors playing Elle and Margo such as “come,” “sit,” and “stay.”

Rufus – Paulette’s dog, medium sized Bulldog, Boxer, or other breed of similar look.  Appears in multiple scenes and will need to be able to:

  • Run toward a person off leash
  • Respond to commands from the actors playing Elle and Paulette such as “come,” “sit,” and “stay.”

SCHEDULE

Rehearsals:

The dog and owner/guardian will need to attend one to two rehearsals per week the weeks of April 7, 14, and 21.  We will schedule based on availibility.

Tech Week:

The dog and owner/guardian must be available to attend all technical rehearsals.  They won’t necessarily be called the entire time of the rehearsal.

The Passing of John Keehnen

MPI_John KeehnenJohn J. Keehnen, Jr. passed away unexpectedly at the age of 71 on Thursday, January 18, 2024. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on September 21, 1952, to John James Keehnen and Elizabeth (Paddock) Keehnen. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and many aunts and uncles.

John was blessed with a multifaceted life. He was a DJ at a radio station in Florida, hosted The Tall Twelve Television Company’s Show – Expo and the John Keehnen Variety Show, shared his artistic talents as a freelance artist across multiple mediums, and performed in a multitude of community theater productions for Mariemont Players, Footlighters and others. He was a medical sculptor at Shriners Hospitals for Children where he truly cared for the children he served for 31+ years.

John never met a stranger. His great sense of humor and gentle nature put people at ease. He was a loving, devoted, and supportive husband and father who always let it be known how proud he was of “his girls”. He was also a caring brother and uncle to many nieces and nephews and always a great friend. He is survived by his wife, Victoria (Beeler) Keehnen; daughters, Sarah and Erin Keehnen; sisters, Linda Connor and Sr. Judi Keehnen.

The family will receive friends at John H. Evans Funeral Home, 1944 State Route 28, Goshen, Ohio 45122, Thursday, February 1, 2024, from 5:50 PM until 7;30 PM.

All are welcome to attend a Memorial Mass at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 5890 Buckwheat Road, Milford, Ohio 45150, Friday, February 2, 2024at 12 PM.
Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriners Children’s Ohio at One Children’s Plaza – 2 West, Dayton, Ohio 45404, or the American Lung Association, 4050 Executive Park Drive Cincinnati, Ohio 45241.
