2024-2025 Season Announced by Falcon Theatre

FT_logoEvery show in our 2024-25 season is a regional premiere and we’re so excited to bring these amazing plays to our audience for the coming season. More information will be coming soon, but make plans now to catch everything in our season!

POTUS by Selina Fillinger
September 13-28, 2024

One four-letter word is about to rock 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. When the President unwittingly spins a PR nightmare into a global crisis, the seven brilliant and beleaguered women he relies upon most risk life, liberty, and the pursuit of sanity to keep the commander-in-chief out of trouble.

Selina Fillinger’s brilliant, all-female farce took Broadway by storm in a star-studded production that earned three 2022 Tony nominations.

MINDGAME by Anthony Horowitz
November 1-16-2024

A prominent author of novels and “true crime”stories enters a secluded mental institution to interview a serial killer who has been confined there for thirty years. The superintendent of the institution does not want the interview to take place and is hostile. In an effort to make the writer to understand what it means to be insane, he restrains him in a straight jacket. Then he pulls out a scalpel; he is the serial killer. The inmates have taken over the asylum and killed all of the staff except for “Nurse Plimpton”. Actually a doctor, she tries to intervene and is gruesomely dispatched or so the audience thinks. Mindgame was a riveting hit in London’s West End and later Off-Broadway starring Keith Carradine directed by Ken Russell.

HANGMEN by Martin McDonnagh
January 24-February 8, 2025

It’s 1965, and the death penalty has just been abolished in the United Kingdom. Naturally all of Oldham, northern England, wants to know what Harry, the second-best hangman in the country, has to say about it. As the news breaks, Harry’s pub is overrun with locals and reporters looking for a quote, until a visitor arrives with a darker and more mysterious agenda

MR. PARKER by Michael McKeever
March 14-29, 2025

At 54 years old, Terry Parker finds himself at a crossroads in his life. After the loss of his partner of 30 years, he finds himself suddenly single and unable to adjust to a world that has moved on without him. After a night of heavy drinking, he wakes up with a 28-year-old bartender-slash-Uber-driver. These two very different people begin a tentative relationship, and what starts out as a one-night stand becomes a journey of self-discovery for a man trying to let go of the past and move forward, while dealing with the pressures of being middle-aged, gay and alone in the ever-changing landscape of today’s America.

TBA – Stay tuned for the announcement of the final show of our season. We’ll be posting it very soon!

Ted J. Weil, Producing Artistic Director, says, “This is a season of plays about chaos…from the chaos of dark minds, to the changes that alter our lives irrevocably, to the outrageous (and farcical) inner workings of the White House, this season offers drama, mystery, comedy and pathos.  I am honored by the hard work and artistry of the wonderful people who choose to share their talents and passion with us at Falcon Theatre and am thrilled to have these outstanding plays to offer our amazing artists and audience.”

BREAKING THE CODE Runs March 15-30

23-24_FTSeason_Final_SocialBannersBREAKING THE CODE
Falcon Theatre
March 15-30
[Newport]

Directed by Ed Cohen

Cast: Ted Weil as Mick Ross, Rick Grant-Coons as Alan Turning, Parker Culp as Christopher Morcom, Linda Callahan as Sara Turing, Lawson Smith as Ron Miller, Ron Cropper as John Smith, Forrest Fairley as Dillwyn Know, Rachel Mock as Pat Green & Elias Dean as Nikos

Derek Jacobi took London and Broadway by storm in this exceptional biographical drama about a man who broke too many codes: the eccentric genius Alan Turing who played a major role in winning the World War II; he broke the complex German code called Enigma, enabling allied forces to foresee German maneuvers. Since his work was classified top secret for years after the war, no one knew how much was owed to him when he was put on trial for breaking another code the taboo against homosexuality. Turing, who was also the first to conceive of computers, was convicted of the criminal act of homosexuality and sentenced to undergo hormone treatments which left him physically and mentally debilitated. He died a suicide, forgotten and alone. This play is about who he was, what happened to him and why.

VINCENT Runs Jan. 26-Feb. 10

23-24_FTSeason_Final_SocialBannersVINCENT
Falcon Theatre
Jan. 26-Feb. 10
[Newport]

Directed by David Derringer

Featuring Chad Brinkman as Theo Van Gogh

Originally presented by the Guthrie Theatre, this multi-image dramatic staging received rave reviews when it was toured with Leonard Nimoy playing the one extraordinary role. The excitement and color of Van Gogh’s life and art enhance this production through the projection of images that are carefully designed to add impact to the words. As the Variety critic put it, “The actor doesn’t have the stage to himself. He plays against the celebrated artist’s brilliant [work].” The total effect is dazzling. You will see Vincent Van Gogh in a new light as his life unfolds before you through the letters he shared with his brother, Theo.

TWO POINT OH Review

Two Point OH presented by Falcon Theatre through December 2nd. For this addition to my original LCT review, I attended the second Friday performance (aka Rachel Mock’s opening night).

Do you know how rare it is that a reviewer gets to see a show more than once in order to contribute to their write-up? We’re talking nearly as rare as white peacocks or a corpse flower. (Google them, kids – the latter was on display at the Cincinnati Zoo just last summer.) Fortunately, I was offered the opportunity recently to see Falcon Theatre’s Two Point OH one more time so I could see Rachel Mock step into her role as Melanie Leeds after having the privilege of seeing her understudy opening weekend.

One of the things I am not sure I mentioned enough in my original review [for the League of Cincinnati Theatres] is just how smart and engaging Jefferey Jackson’s script is. Coupled with talented actors and creative direction by Steve Phelan, I had no problem seeing the show a second time.

Everyone in the cast was just as good if not better the second time around – so I won’t bore them with additional praise. But they are really brilliant! However, this viewing had a specific purpose and it was to see the artist originally cast as Melanie step into the role after having to step out due to illness. Rachel Mock impresses from the get-go in portraying the complicated feelings of Elliot Leeds’ wife and then widow. Without spoiling specific plot points, Ms. Mock’s build into her feelings of grief and loss is heart-breaking and very relatable. She has seemingly mastered this role’s rollercoaster of emotions and reactions and the audience truly goes on that ride with her. Further, I was impressed with Ms. Mock’s poise in showing both verbal and physical changes as her emotional status fluctuated. Brava to Ms. Mock and to everyone involved!

You still have three more chances to catch this show before the hardware becomes obsolete: Thursday November 30th, Friday December 1st, and Saturday December 2nd. For more information about the show – including how to purchase tickets – please visit Falcon’s site here.
