Cast: Ian Kramer as Martin, Merritt Beischel as Kate, Angel Zachel as Izzy, Alec Bowling as Douglas & Michael Shooner as Leonard

The play looks at a post-graduate writing seminar led by a jaded professor who seems more interested in criticizing his students than teaching them. As we begin to know the students and teacher, we find that we are learning about the true price of success and failure.

Now Falcon will bring the wonderful music and heat warming tale to life for the holiday season. Our production will feature live musicians, actors and marionettes as we weave this beautiful story.

SLASHER presented by Falcon Theatre through Nov. 2. Read the show description.

Falcon’s SLASHER doesn’t just stumble, but falls on it’s own knife (repeatedly) in this lackluster, nearly-bloodless production. Described as a “frighteningly funny send up of the horror movie genre,” Allison Moore’s thin and meandering script seems to need imagination, humor and attention to the details of the horror genre to pull it together. That effort isn’t there.

In an early scene with Dan Doerger (Marc) and Jeffrey Surber (Jody) the two characters are having a long discussion about the horror genre. To me it seemed as if they were just reciting lines, and didn’t have a real understanding of the subject matter. This lack of understanding of the subject matter was evident throughout the entire production.

On opening Saturday, the show was uneven with odd timing and fumbled lines. There was little fun or energy to the performances. Sadly, the biggest laugh of the night came from a set door falling off its hinges.

Tara Williams, in multiple-wigged roles, brought some fun and nice energy to the stage. Norma Rashid’s appearance as news reporter Belinda Chapman was a definite treat, but if the whole production had been stronger, her appearance would have been the cherry on top of a fun night.

Overall the lack of vision and enthusiasm for the material was evident in the quality of the production.

A Bloody Good Time SLASHER OPENS Oct. 18

A Bloody Good Time
SLASHER opens October 18th!

It’s almost here! Slasher is the first show of our season. Set in a small Texas town, Slasher follows the making of an extremely low-budget horror film. Between losing much of their funding, the conservative religious group trying to shut down production and the strange “accidents” that start befalling the cast and crew, Slasher is a frighteningly funny send up of the horror movie genre. It’s the perfect way to celebrate Halloween!

The cast includes:

  • Lauren Bailey
  • Dee Anne Bryll
  • Kaleigh Howland
  • Dan Doerger
  • Tara Williams
  • Jeff Surber
  • Norma Rashid

SLASHER runs October 18, 19, 25, 26, November 1, 2, 2013 at Falcon Theatre, 636 Monmouth Street, Newport KY 41071. All shows are at 8 PM.

Tickets: Adults $18, Students & Seniors $15 with valid ID. Click here to order online up until 4 hours before the show’s start.
