COVINGTON, Ky (March 1, 2022) – The Carnegie proudly continues its 2021-22 Theatre Series with KEEPER OF THE REALM, a new play by Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati’s Producing Artistic Director, D. Lynn Meyers, playing on the Otto M. Budig stage weekends April 1-16, 2022.

What happens when middle-aged parents unexpectedly pass, and their twenty-something children get together to decide what happens to their family house and possessions? Add in the parents who haven’t quite moved on and a mysterious person with an eye for encyclopedias. KEEPER OF THE REALM is about those we love and what is never truly lost.

The Carnegie and NKU School of the Arts is working together to produce this new play by Meyers. The bold pairing of educational and creative goals has allowed the students of NKU’s School of the Arts Theatre + Dance Program to work intimately with Meyers to workshop and refine the new playscript throughout the ‘21-22 school year. The Carnegie is debuting this world premier script and kicking off the 20th anniversary of NKU’s YES Festival (The Year End Series), the oldest collegiate new-play festival in the country. The YES Festival will host three world-premiere plays, including this first-ever regional collaboration.

“The Carnegie is proud to partner with D. Lynn Meyers and NKU on this production to bring an amazing show to Northern Kentucky,” said Maggie Perrino, Theatre Director at The Carnegie. “In her extensive career, Meyers has directed more than 100 world and regional premieres at Ensemble Theatre. In combination with her work with students from the NKU School of the Arts, guests can expect a one-of-a-kind performance that will tug at your heartstrings.”

Performances of KEEPER OF THE REALM run weekends April 1-16, with an initial Friday, April 1 performance at 7:30 p.m. followed by performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and Sundays at 3 p.m. Tickets are $25-$28. Tickets can be purchased through The Carnegie Box Office, open Tuesday-Friday noon–5 p.m., in person or by phone at (859) 957-1940, or online at www.thecarnegie.com. Patrons seeking group or student tickets should call to make arrangements. Digital production programs will be available at each performance.

CONTENT ADVISORY:  Production includes adult themes and language. Not recommended for children under 12. 

The Carnegie’s 2021-22 Theatre Series is presented by the Otto M. Budig Family Foundation. Additional support for The Carnegie’s Theatre Series comes from the Kentucky Tourism, Arts & Heritage Cabinet.

A Buzz-Worthy Drama – ETC Presents Regional Premiere QUEEN

(Cincinnati, OH) Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati (ETC) kicks off the new year with the regional premiere drama Queen by award-winning playwright Madhuri Shekar. A new play that’s created quite a buzz, Queen is a provocative portrayal of brilliant women confronting inconvenient truths. This high-stakes story of integrity, bioethics, friendship, and the survival of bee populations comes to the ETC stage February 19-March 19, 2022. Directed by Bridget Leak.­­

PhD candidates Sanam and Ariel have spent the better part of the last decade exhaustively researching vanishing bee populations across the globe. Just as these close friends are about to publish a career-defining paper, Sanam stumbles upon an error in their calculations, which could cause catastrophic damage to their reputations, careers, and friendship. Now, Sanam is confronted with an impossible choice: look the other way or stand by her principles and accept the consequences?

“It was very important to me to do a play not only about the ethics of science and academia, but also ethics in honesty. Not only does Queen combine these ideas, but it does so in a very personal way,” says Producing Artistic Director D. Lynn Meyers. “Queen shows audiences that every decision we make should be an ethical one. Whether we’re fighting COVID-19, or we’re fighting to save our planet, or we’re fighting to do what is true to ourselves, ethics is import. I hope we can look at this play as a community to celebrate the important mission we need to undertake to save the bees and our world.”

About the Cast

  • Ryan Wesley Gilreath (Dr. Philip Hayes) finished his eighth year playing Bob Cratchit in A Christmas Carol with Playhouse in the Park. He was seen in the film Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, starring Zac Efron, and in The Food that Built America for The History Channel. His other TV and film credits include TURN: Washington’s Spies, AMC American Genius, National Geographic; Gold Fever, Discovery Channel; and the pilot Guilty (opposite Cuba Gooding, Jr.), Fox. His theatre credits include Burning Desire (alongside Lou Diamond Phillips), Seven Angels Theatre; Ripcord, Tribes, Other Desert Cities, Next Fall, 33 Variations, and Mary’s Wedding, Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati; the national tour of Echoes of Ireland, Ears on a Beatle, Human Race Theatre; and Deathtrap, Florida Repertory Theatre.
  • Saiyam Kumar (Arvind Patel) makes his Ensemble Theatre debut with this production. Saiyam is a graduate of NYU and an actor based in New York City. He’s appeared on several television shows such as The Sinner, Blue Bloods, FBI: Most Wanted, and The Hunt with John Walsh and has worked on many short films. Saiyam is also a dancer with a background in hip-hop, Bollywood fusion, and bhangra. He’s passionate about diverse storytelling that highlights the voices of immigrants and people of color.
  • Gauravi Shah (Sanam Shah) make her Ensemble Theatre debut with this production. She is an engineer, improviser, and sketch comedienne from Toronto, Canada. Gauravi graduated from the Second City Conservatory, directed Elfish, It is a Holiday Show, and Hot Mic: Cincinnati’s Improvised Musical for Improv Cincinnati, and recently directed Troof & Sketchconciliation as part of an ArtsWave diversity grant. She is passionate about amplifying minority voices and aims to do that through inclusion efforts within the Cincinnati comedy and theatre communities.
  • Jordan Trovillion (Ariel Spiegel) is an actor based in Covington, Kentucky—the endpoint of her southerly drift from her home state of Michigan. Her recent theatre credits include All’s Faire (Johnson) and The Absentee (The Operator) with Know Theatre of Cincinnati and You Will Live Under the Sea with Queen City Flash at the 2021 Cincinnati Fringe Festival. Some of her favorite credits include Puffs (Susie Bones track), Know Theatre; Zoinks! (Nolan), Queen City Flash; and Baskerville (Actress), Falcon Theater. Jordan is a member of SAG/AFTRA and has performed in various films and television shows, such as The Old Man and the Gun, My Days of Mercy, and Comedy Central’s Detroiters.

Ticket Prices
Tickets start at $35 for adults; student tickets are $28; and children are $24. Half-Price Rush Tickets: All remaining tickets for the current day’s performance(s) are available two hours prior to each show time for half-price (discount only applies to adult tickets) when purchasing by phone or in person. $15 Student Rush Tickets: Students may purchase up to two $15 student rush tickets two hours prior to show time with valid student I.D. Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati Presents ETC Summer Camps 2022

Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati (ETC) presents a summer of fun, active camps, which feature a variety of exciting opportunities for kids and teens to connect with and learn from world-class theater professionals. Our camps and classes ignite students’ imaginations through the collaborative process of theatre, empower them as creative thinkers, and support their development as artists and young adults. No audition is necessary; however, space is limited.

Currently, all 2022 camps are scheduled to be in-person from 9:00am-5:00pm, and campers will be required to provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 as defined by the CDC.

Junior Summer Camp
Ages 7-15

Unleash your child’s creativity with this fun two-week camp that focuses on acting fundamentals and promotes self-confidence, communication, and teamwork. Camp culminates in a production shared with family and friends. Workshops and topics include performance techniques, improv and acting, movement and stage combat, audition skills, and more! 

Technical Theatre Summer Intensive
Ages 13-18
July 18-22, 2022

This one-week intensive with technical theatre professionals takes a deep dive backstage as participants develop resourcefulness, teamwork, and creative problem-solving while exploring props, lighting, sound, set design, stage management, and more!

High School Summer Intensive
Ages 13-18
July 25-29, 2022
Tuition: $295

This one-week intensive includes five exciting, fun-packed days aimed at refining young artists’ acting skills and is appropriate for actors working to take their craft to the next level. Participants delve into more advanced performance topics including improv, acting, audition techniques, character development, script analysis, and more. This summer camp culminates in a showcase performance for family and friends.

Meals 4 Monologues: Casting Society of America Member D. Lynn Meyers to Audition Actors to Encourage Support of Local Foodstore, February 12, 15 & 16

ETC_logo(Cincinnati, OH) Dim the lights, raise the curtain! Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati hosts its tenth annual Meals 4 Monologues auditions. Actors from throughout the Midwest are invited for a general audition call to perform for D. Lynn Meyers, a member of the Casting Society of America (CSA), and are encouraged to make a donation to Cincinnati’s Freestore Foodbank.

The event, in an effort to support local food banks while auditioning local talent, will be held virtually via Zoom on Saturday, February 12 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm; and Tuesday, February 15 and Wednesday, February 16, 2022 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. This is an open casting call to all Equity union and non-union actors for future theatre, film, TV, and/or commercial projects cast by D. Lynn Meyers, CSA. This call is for all interested without regard to previous experience and with a strong emphasis on diversity and inclusion.

Audition time slots are 3 minutes each and must be scheduled ONLINE at www.ensemblecincinnati.org/auditions. Sign-ups will be available starting January 24, 2022 at 12:00pm and are and on a first-come, first-serve basis.

To audition:

  • Upload a current HEADSHOT and RÉSUMÉ (DO NOT email them);
  • Prepare a short monologue and song (must be performed a cappella), or two prepared monologues.

The Freestore Foodbank is the largest emergency food and services provider to children and families in Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, and Southeast Indiana, distributing 33 million meals annually to low-income individuals and families. The Freestore Foodbank supports 511 community partner agencies serving 20 counties in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. This includes food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, community centers, program sites, senior centers, and daycare facilities. The Freestore Foodbank is a member of Feeding America.

The Casting Society of America (CSA) is the premier organization of theatrical Casting Directors in film, television, and theatre. Although it is not a union, the CSA is a united professional society that consistently sets the level of professionalism in casting upon which the entertainment industry relies. CSA’s more than 490 members are represented not only in the United States, but also in Europe, Canada, Australia, and South Africa. “I am very proud to be a member of the Casting Society of America,” says CSA member D. Lynn Meyers. “The idea of Meals 4 Monologues came from a desire to always see new talent and to aid the community. I am delighted at the opportunity to see new faces and to spread outreach beyond the Greater Cincinnati area through this event.”
