The heart of Ireland beats strongly throughout the tour featuring an entirely new production showcasing vocalists Mairéad Carlin, Susan McFadden and newest member Éabha McMahon along with Celtic violinist and founding member Máiréad Nesbitt, accompanied by a group of equally talented musicians and dancers.

DESTINY CD/DVD (Manhattan Records) is Celtic Woman’s 10th CD and first of all-new material since 2011’s Believe.  DESTINY features a fresh fusion of traditional Irish music and modern songcraft, including theWaterboys classic “The Whole of the Moon,” Ed Sheeran’s “I See Fire,” from The Hobbit film, Mutt Lange’s “Walk Beside Me” and the popular video game theme, “Skyrim.”  As Ireland commemorates the events of 100 years ago that led to its nation’s independence, Celtic Woman offers a rousing version of  “Óró sé do bheatha ‘bhaile,” an anthem closely connected with the 1916 uprising. The all-female ensemble also delivers timeless traditional Irish songs such as  “Bean Pháidín” and “Siúil A Run” highlighting the beauty of Ireland’s heritage and its Gaelic language, plus audience favorites “Amazing Grace” and “You Raise Me Up.”

The companion DVD Destiny: Live in Concert was filmed in Dublin in the Round Room at the Mansion House, the historic home of the Lord Mayor of Dublin.  The concert has already begun airing on local public television stations as the latest in Celtic Woman’s lengthy series of successful PBS television concert specials.

The multi-platinum, all-female ensemble made its debut on PBS in 2005 and has achieved massive success encompassing 10 chart-topping albums, nine PBS specials, over eight million albums sold, and platinum sales in nine countries. Celtic Woman regularly performs to sellout audiences across six continents and 23 countries, with an especially devoted following in America.

CAA_Overture Awards logoCINCINNNATI, OH – The Cincinnati Arts Association (CAA) is proud to present the 2016 Overture Awards Finals Competition. The Overture Awards provides $4,000 each to six area high school students for education and training expenses, with eighteen finalists each winning $1,000. The program also provides a $2,500 Arts Educator Award for Excellence in Arts Instruction.

The Overture Awards Finals Competition and Awards Ceremony will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the Aronoff Center’s Jarson-Kaplan Theater. Winners will be announced immediately following the competition.

This year, 493 students were nominated by their schools to compete in one of six artistic disciplines: Creative Writing, Dance, Instrumental Music, Theater, Visual Art, and Vocal Music. The Overture Awards was developed to recognize, encourage, and reward excellence in the arts among Tri-state students in grades 9-12. It also provides students an opportunity to share their talents and interests among their peers in a supportive environment outside of their individual schools. There are three levels of competition: Regional, Semi-Final, and Final.

The Overture Awards Regional Competitions were held on January 9 at the Aronoff Center for the Arts, Immanuel United Methodist Church (Lakeside Park, KY), Northern Kentucky University, and the University of Cincinnati – College-Conservatory of Music. The top 20 percent of competitors in each discipline advanced to the Semi-Finals, which were held at the Aronoff Center on January 29-30. Twenty-four finalists (four in each discipline) will compete in the Finals Competition at the Aronoff Center’s Jarson-Kaplan Theater on February 27.

Now in its 20th year, The Overture Awards was launched in 1996 by the Cinergy Foundation (now Duke Energy) and Leadership Cincinnati (a program of the Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce). The Overture Awards is funded and administered by the Cincinnati Arts Association, which operates and manages the Aronoff Center and Music Hall. The Overture Awards also relies on hundreds of volunteers from the community who help raise funds, adjudicate and manage the competitions, and nurture the program.

THE OVERTURE AWARDS ARE ENDOWED BY THE OTTO M. BUDIG FAMILY FOUNDATION.

A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN | Wed., April 13 | Aronoff Center

Broadway’s Critically-Acclaimed Musical

Tour Begins February 9, 2016 at the Panasonic Theatre in Toronto

CINCINNATI, OH – The critically-acclaimed Broadway musical, A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN, will take the stage at the Aronoff Center’s Procter & Gamble Hall on Wednesday, April 13 at 7:30 PM.  Conceived, written, and directed by Randy Johnson, the rock musical features choreography by Patricia Wilcox and musical direction by Tyler Evans. The much-anticipated show is part of CAA’S 2015-16 Season, celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Aronoff Center.

The show is a musical journey celebrating Janis Joplin and her biggest musical influences – trailblazers like Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Odetta, Nina Simone, and Bessie Smith, all of whom inspired Joplin to become one of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s greatest legends. Like a comet that burns far too brightly to last, Joplin exploded onto the music scene in 1967 and, almost overnight, became the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Her unmistakable voice, filled with raw emotion and tinged with Southern Comfort, made Joplin a must-see headliner from Monterey to Woodstock. Audiences will enjoy Joplin’s favorites, including “Piece of My Heart,” “Cry Baby,” and “Me and Bobby McGee,” among many others.

The New York Times raved that A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN “rocks the house” and Variety called it “electrifying.” New York 1 cheered, “This will rock your socks off!”

A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN features Mary Bridget Davies in the starring role. Upon gaining local acclaim for her work in various rock bands, Cleveland native Davies was asked to sit in with Big Brother & The Holding Company (Joplin’s original band, with whom she would later tour), as well as legendary blues guitarist Robert Lockwood Jr. Davies received a Tony® nomination for “Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical” when A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN debuted on Broadway in 2013.

A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN’s 2016 North American Tour will play 34 cities across the U.S. and Canada for a total of 70 shows, kicking off February 9, 2016 in Toronto. The tour is presented by Iconic Entertainment Studios in association with Todd Gershwin and Daniel Chilewich. A Night With Janis Joplin is presented in further association with The Estate of Janis Joplin and Jeffrey Jampol of JAM, Inc.
