AN O HENRY HOLIDAY – GIFTS OF THE SEASON Runs Nov. 13-23

BVCT_logoAN O HENRY HOLIDAY – GIFTS OF THE SEASON
Presented by Brookville Community Theatre
Nov. 13-23
Brookville

Directed by Sharon Henry

Cast: G. Michael Robinson, Alain Alejandro, Harry Shepard, Joyce Luther, Dimitri Markov, Don Cordes, Kathy DeVorak, Alisea Brown, Stephanie Long, Debbi Robbins, Christie Lamb, Jen Bell, Laura Robbins, Larry Henry, Jim Hocker & Addison Hern

THE GIFT OF THE MAGI is probably one of the most beloved stories for Christmas. It, along with two other tender stories by O. Henry, THE LAST LEAF and the lesser known CHRISTMAS BY INJUNCTION are dramatized here, set in the framework of O. Henry’s life which in itself is a story.

In the early 1900s he was one of the most widely read authors in America. O. Henry, whose real name was William Sydney Porter, was known, however, to have spent some time in jail for allegedly embezzling from an employer, and it is believed that he started writing there in order to support his daughter. Based on these events, the play opens with him jailed on Christmas Eve. Each story he tells — the first to his jailer, the second to his daughter, and the third as he is writing it — comes alive with the actors taking over their character’s lines. As he literally breathes life into them, they maintain the wit, charm and sweetness with which they were written.

CHRISTMAS BELLES Runs Sept. 11-21

BVCT_logoCHRISTMAS BELLES
Presented by Brookville Community Theatre
Sept. 11-21
Brookville

Directed by James Nelson

Cast: Debbi Robbins as Frankie, Anne Kirklin as Twink, Laina Abner as Honey Raye, Junior Cruea as Geneva Musgrave, Adonis Lemke as Dub, Grant Phillips as Raynerd Chisum, Kathy DeVorak as Patsy Price, Cory Limbert, Amy Caylor, Cindy Cuny &  John Kincaid

It’s Christmas time in the small town of Fayro, Texas, and the Futrelle Sisters—Frankie, Twink and Honey Raye—are not exactly in a festive mood. A cranky Frankie is weeks overdue with her second set of twins. Twink, recently jilted and bitter about it, is in jail for inadvertently burning down half the town. And hot-flash-suffering Honey Raye is desperately trying to keep the Tabernacle of the Lamb’s Christmas Program from spiraling into chaos. But things are not looking too promising: Geneva Musgrave, the ousted director of the previous twenty-seven productions, is ruthless in her attempts to take over the show; the celebrity guest Santa Claus—played by Frankie’s long-suffering husband, Dub—is passing a kidney stone; Raynerd Chisum, one of the shepherds, refuses to watch over his flock by night without pulling his little red wagon behind him and the entire cast is dropping like flies due to food poisoning from the Band Boosters’ Pancake Supper. But when the family arch nemesis Patsy Price shows up and when Frankie lets slip a family secret that has been carefully guarded for decades, all hope for a successful Christmas program seems lost, even with an Elvis impersonator at the manger. But in true Futrelle fashion, the feuding sisters find a way to pull together in order to present a Christmas program the citizens of Fayro will never forget. Their hilarious journey through a misadventure-filled Christmas Eve is guaranteed to bring joy to your world!
