NKU Hosts Outdoor Multimedia Performance on Oct. 8

NKU_Cembto Mori logoHIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY – Multimedia performance group Froghole? responds to Northern Kentucky University’s brutalist architecture through intimate examinations of space through sound, performance, and video.

  • What: “Cemento Mori” by Froghole?
  • When: Oct. 8, 6:30-8 p.m.
  • Where: Outdoors on NKU’s campus starting at Oakley and Eva Farris Amphitheatre, moving to Donald Judd sculpture, ending at Corbett Amphitheatre
  • Note: Event will take place outdoors. Social distancing and masks required.

A three-act performance, “Cemento Mori” will explore three different outdoor sites on NKU’s campus. Each act corresponds with a location near the School of the Arts building. Audio, visual, and physically performative elements combined with constructed instruments will result in immersive, resonant, and spontaneous soundscapes aimed to make viewers reconsider the environment the performance takes place in.

Froghole? is a Cincinnati-based band and artist collective interested in non-traditional ways of making art that are centered on multimedia and performance art practices.

About NKU:  Founded in 1968, we are a growing metropolitan university of more than 15,000 students served by more than 2,000 faculty and staff on a thriving suburban campus near Cincinnati. Located in the quiet suburb of Highland Heights, Kentucky—just seven miles southeast of Cincinnati—we have become a leader in Greater Cincinnati and Kentucky by providing a private school education for a fraction of the cost. While we are one of the fastest growing universities in Kentucky, our professors still know our students’ names. For more information, visit nku.edu.

Already selected for this year’s concert are “Mr. Blue Sky,” There’s Nothin’ Holding Me Back,” “Two Tickets to Paradise,” “Stayin’ Alive,” “Moves Like Jagger” and, in accordance with the theme, the appropriate “Get Back” by the Beatles.

The 2021 Guest Suits, many of whom participated in the virtual “Rock On for The Carnegie Kids” virtual campaign in 2020, include: Dan Cahill, Managing Principal and CEO at HSD Metrics; Chrissy Dunn Dutton, Litigation Partner at Buechner, Haffer, Meyers & Koeing Co., LPA.; Freidoon Ghazi, Cardiologist at Tri-Health Heart Institute; Brian Kaeppner, Manager of Enterprise Application Engineering at General Electric; Louis Kelly, Commonwealth’s Attorney for 54th Judicial Circuit, Shari Lauter, Director of Qualitative Operations for Campos and John Vitucci, Retired Sourcing Specialist and Senior Contract Administrator for General Electric.

“Ensuring the safety and health of those in attendance is our top priority at every event and function we host,” said Kimberly Best, The Carnegie’s Executive Director. “The Covington Plaza Outdoor Amphitheater on the riverfront provides us a safe, grand stage to get back to SUITS THAT ROCK.”

SUITS THAT ROCK takes place at Saturday, Oct. 9 (Saturday, Oct, 16, 2021 will serve as a rain date) at the Covington Plaza Outdoor Amphitheater (1 Madison Ave., Covington, KY 41011). Closing Reception Scheduled for RESIDUE Exhibition at The Carnegie Galleries

TC_logo_newReception to include artist panel discussion to highlight closing show on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021

COVINGTON, KY (September 14, 2021) – The exhibition RESIDUE, now on view at The Carnegie, explores the links between artists, the works they exhibit and the viewers in the gallery. As the exhibition comes to a close, the public is invited to join several of the participating artists for a final look at the show and also a special panel discussion.

The Carnegie will host a closing reception for RESIDUE from noon to 6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 2. From 3-4 p.m. Chef and RESIDUE artist, Maggie Lawson, will moderate a discussion featuring female-identified farmers/artists: Karla Batres Gilvin of Gilvin Family Farm; Toncia L. Chavez of ETC Produce & Provisions; Marykate Glenn of Mustard Seed Farm; and Amanda Wilson of Old Dutch Hops. The discussion will use Lawson’s installation Homemaking: A Speculative Pantry as a starting point for deeper conversations about the connections between art and farming.

Guests attending the final day of the exhibition and panel exhibition at The Carnegie are asked to wear a protective face covering/mask as part of Northern Kentucky’s ongoing efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

ABOUT THE EXHIBIT
RESIDUE is curated by Maria Seda-Reeder who frequently highlights artists who operate in the social sphere and create objects and situations that encourage interaction and community engagement. The exhibition focuses on works that invite us to co-create meaning and enter a dialogue with images in the galleries. The work done by artists in their studio is completed by thoughtful participation by the viewers. As such, that gesture is passed on from artist to patron and from patron out into the world.

Artists featured in RESIDUE include: Laura Aguilar (Long Beach, CA); Batres/Gilvin (Morning View, KY); Latausha Cox (Cincinnati, OH); Sea Dax (Cincinnati); Aaron Delamatre (Cincinnati); EMPIRE CITIZENS (Latonia); Nona Faustine (Brooklyn); David Hammonds (Los Angeles); Clarity Haynes (New York City); Maggie Lawson, (Cincinnati); Liam Ze’ev O’Connor (Oakland); and Clint Woods (Cincinnati).

Season Sponsor: FotoFocus

Exhibition Sponsors: M. Katherine Hurley and Jens G. Rosenkrantz, Jr. and The Harvey C. Hubbell Charitable Gift Fund.

Special thank you to the Sara M. and Michelle Vance Waddell Collection for lending important objects to this exhibition.

RESIDUE runs through Saturday, October 2, 2021. The Carnegie Gallery is free and open to the public. Hours are Thursday-Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. For more information, contact The Carnegie at (859) 491-2030 or visit www.thecarnegie.com.
