Anderson Theatre Offers THE GLASS MENAGERIE and THE MOUSETRAP in February

AHS_ The Glass MenagerieTwo master playwrights, two groundbreaking plays, one amazing weekend. The Glass Menagerie is a semi-autobiographical masterpiece by Tennessee Williams, a lyric and emotional ‘memory play’ that reflects on family dysfunction and the difficulty of accepting reality. The Mousetrap is the iconic murder mystery by Agatha Christie, a tale of suspense and murder that stands at the world’s longest-running play. Anderson Theatre is presenting both of these plays in a single weekend in February, giving audiences alternating nights of some of the best theatre in history.

AHS_The MousetrapThe Glass Menagerie will run February 15 & 17, and The Mousetrap will run February 16 & 18. Tickets go on sale to the public on 1/6/2024. Acting Up proudly presents its 10th Musical Revue! This year’s extravaganza promises to be a delightful journey through the world of musical theatre, featuring songs from beloved shows centered around the theme of travel.

This year’s revue, themed around travel, is a celebration of triumph and resilience, and moving forward, showcasing songs from iconic productions such as “The Wiz” & “Catch Me If You Can” and timeless classics like “Oklahoma” and “42nd Street.”

Based in Mason, Acting Up draws young performers from across the tri-state area, solidifying its reputation as a hub for emerging talent. A proud member of Ohio’s Association of Community Theaters, Acting Up has been recognized with numerous awards for its outstanding musical programs since 2005.

‘America’s Got Talent’ Finalist Performs at the Fairfield Community Arts Center on Feb. 9

FAIRFIELD, OH – Enter the amazing world of Magic Shadows at the Fairfield Community Arts Center (FCAC) Friday, Feb. 9 at 8 p.m. Presented by Catapult Entertainment, an America’s Got Talent finalist, you won’t believe your eyes as you watch these incredible dancers transform their bodies into seemingly impossible shapes.

In one instant they are a mouse and then a full-size elephant, a camel, a car with headlights, a house and not just a house but a house with a window and people inside the window. You will never figure out how they do it and you won’t know what they will make next – you will be surprised again and again.

Audiences are delighted by the apparently effortless transformations and applaud over and over as more and more unbelievable images appear on the stage. Not only is the show packed with hundreds of shape transformations but it is full of humor, emotion, and engaging stories.

Magic Shadows is comprised of eight fully realized stories that are told using only music and shadows. There is no language barrier – adults and children from any place on earth will follow and love these stories. The show also includes one very special shadow dance using cutting edge technology to create Color Shadows! No other shadow company has this technology.

Audiences leave this show dazed and happy and they will never look at their own shadow the same way again!

The Performing Arts Academy Present THE SOUND OF MUSIC Jan. 26-Feb. 4

The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein, “The Sound of Music” was destined to become the world’s most-beloved musical. Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do Re Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen,” and the title number, “The Sound of Music” won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars for the feature film version. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows a young nun in-training who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire Von Trapp family must make a moral decision.

“The Sound of Music” stars Evan Rawlins, (Trenton) as Captain Gorg von Trapp, Leah Busick, (Lebanon) as Mother Abbess, Brock Noble, (Middletown) as Max Detweiler, Lily Whitt, (Franklin) as Elsa Schraeder, and Rachael Kindred, (Franklin) as Maria Rainer.

The Walnut Hills High School Theatre Department Presents Celebrity, Scandal, and A Commentary on the American Criminal Justice System, Through Satirical Comedy in CHICAGO

Cincinnati, OH- The Walnut Hills High School Theatre Department is elated to be welcoming back audiences to its auditorium with the senior high musical, Chicago (Teen Edition)

In roaring twenties Chicago, chorine Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband, Amos, to take the rap… until he finds out he’s been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another “Merry Murderess,” Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the “American Dream”: fame, fortune, and acquittal.

Regarding the musical, director Mike Sherman says, “Chicago is a classic of the American Musical Theatre, and a show our audiences have long requested. It is a masterpiece of satire that is still sadly relevant today, but it makes its points with songs, dances, and lots of laughs.”

The show runs February 15-17, 2024 in the Walnut Hills High School Auditorium.
