Come join us as we travel back to the 1920s for this familiar tale of greed, corruption, and jazz, all those things we hold near and dear to our hearts. Will Roxie Hart get away with the shooting death of her lover? Will Velma Kelly ever get her trial date? Will Amos ever be treated with respect? Will the six merry murderesses get away with homicide? OR will Billy Flynn, attorney extraordinaire get them acquitted for the incredibly low price of five thousand dollars?

All these answers, along with the familiar songs and dances made famous by the movie and Broadway productions await you as 23 students sing and dance their way through this gritty and gripping tale. Adding to the jazzy ambiance is our killer 14-piece student orchestra.

Cincinnati, OH (March 18, 2024) – If you like the movie, you’ll love the ballet! Cincinnati Ballet presents the annual Family Series: The Little Mermaid, April 11-14 at the Aronoff Center. The hour-long, narrated production is perfect for families and dance lovers of all ages. Cincinnati Ballet is also proud to continue its commitment to accessible programming for all with this annual production. In partnership with Cincinnati Children’s, Cincinnati Ballet will offer a sensory-friendly performance on Friday, April 12 at 10:30 am. Sensory-friendly performances are created to provide a supportive and welcoming experience for those with sensory processing challenges to enjoy live ballet with their friends and family. The environment is relaxed and may include lighting, sound, and other production modifications. Electronic devices, fidgets, and other support items are allowed in the theater. Patrons are also permitted to enter and leave the theater during the performance. In addition, every performance of The Little Mermaid will be ASL (American Sign Language) interpreted. Select performances will also be audio-described for patrons who are visually impaired.

The Family Series is performed by the Second Company – CB2 and Cincinnati Ballet Otto M. Budig Academy students. This year, dive into adventure with the classic Hans Christian Anderson tale. It’s the beloved story of a brave, kind mermaid, a devious sea witch, and a handsome prince. The stage will be transformed into an ocean filled with a cast of colorful characters including angelfish, sharks, crabs, and of course, mermaids! Plus, the patron experience starts at the door. The Aronoff Center will become the Mermaid’s Cove, with free sea-themed games, drop-in dance classes crafts, photos, and other activities on all three levels. We are so pleased to welcome families back to the Aronoff for an interactive dance performance created with children in mind. The Little Mermaid features the familiar storyline re-interpreted with incredible dance. The production, choreographed by Pamela Robinson Harris and Peggy Dolkas, is also narrated, making the story easy for even the youngest members of your family to understand and enjoy. The production runs a little over an hour.
