OVER-THE-RHINE, MAY 31-JUNE 11: In 1892, the famed inventor Nikola Tesla awoke with partial amnesia. Using his incredible willpower, he pieced his life back, memory by memory. Cincinnati Fringe will be hosting the premier run of energetic original theatrical biography, Tesla Ex Machina. Seattle writer-actor Ricky Coates examines science and humanity through a virtuosic one-man performance, featuring charismatic live demonstrations of some of Tesla’s most renowned experiments, framed by a touching exploration of memory, family, and what it means to be human in an age of technology.

Born and raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Ricky received his BFA from the University of Arizona and has been working as a professional actor for over 15 years. He currently resides in Seattle, Washington and tours the world with his original plays. Ricky strives to break the conventional approach to solo-work and touring shows. He loves creating physical, intelligent, and entertaining theatrical productions with “nerdy” themes. He has received critical and audience acclaim for his one-man play Death of Brian: A Zombie Odyssey.

‘These were your children; you threw them out and I took them in.’ Charles Manson, Gardener of the Haight, tended to the Flower Children. In a time of free love, why was war their first, last, and only hope? In the shadow of the horrific murders of 1969, Charlie’s Girls explores the space in which the impressionable prey becomes the merciless predator. Join us as we relive the infamous crime and the end of not only the Summer of Love, but the innocence of a nation.

All performances are at Gabriel’s Corner (1425 Sycamore St., Cincinnati) on the following dates and times:

  • Wednesday, June 1st at 7:45pm
  • Friday, June 3rd at 9:15pm
  • Saturday, June 4th at 9:15pm

  • Saturday, June 11th at 5:30pm

InBocca Performance utilizes experimental theatre methods to create devised works, which build actors’ craft and produce a unique experience for the audience. Actors (ranging in ages from 8 to adulthood) construct their own scenes, choreograph dance segments, and work with diverse musical genres, all under general direction from Caroline Stine. Ms. Stine, a graduate of Highlands High School, received her Bachelor degree from Butler University, and her masters in Contemporary Performance from Naropa University in Boulder, CO. She received theatrical training in Italy and Russia and recently participated in the Crisis Arts Festival in Arezzo, Italy. She is currently teaching at Northern Kentucky University and Notre Dame Academy.

History of the Company
InBocca Performance humbly began as the Cliffview Players in Caroline Stine’s basement in 1997 on Cliffview Avenue. It then moved to her backyard in 1999, and became a main stage company in 2008. Notable past performances for the Ft. Thomas Community Theatre at Highlands High School were Peter Pan in 2008 and Into the Woods in 2010. Caroline began working with young actors to devise theatrical pieces in the summer of 2011 at The Village Players in Ft. Thomas, KY. In 2012, they created The Maid of Orleans an emotionally charged production about Joan of Arc. In the summer of 2013, they created Romeo y Margarita, a story that combined the lyricism of Shakespearean verse with the romance of the Spanish language. Since 2013, they have expanded to create art within the greater Cincinnati area. This includes a sellout production of Swan Lake: A Waking Dream performed at The Southgate House Revival last winter and a piece in the 2015 Cincinnati Fringe Festival, My Twisted Face, which addressed the concept of rape as a part of our society. This winter, they presented a collaboration with Say Yes Dance and Nicole Hershey to create

Genderbent Rat Pack parody to Ring-a-ding-ding 2016 Cincy Fringe

CFF_SHEnatra promoFROM THE CREATORS OF THE FAMOUS HAYDELL SISTERS

OVER-THE-RHINE-May 31-June 11, 2016: Among the boundary-pushing work set to take the stage this year is SHEnatra-a new musical satire from comedy duo Bowman and Yarborough, creators of last year’s sensational hit The Famous Haydell Sisters Comeback Tour  (featuring Sadie Bowman of Calculus: The Musical! and Channel Fringe HardHitting  Action News Update, and longtime improvisor/comedian Donna Kay Yarborough). This year the Portland, OR comic team turns their satirical wit and scathing lyrical play toward an entirely different genre of American music, while examining modern gender dynamics through the eyes  of two midcentury male icons.

Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin are dead (spoiler!) and in a very particular purgatory-trapped in women’s bodies in atonement for the sexist transgressions they perpetuated against all the “broads” during their lifetime. They explore gender double-standards and the consequences of their freewheeling masculinity through hilarious parodies of classic standards like “You Make Me Feel So Dumb,” “The Girl with Emphysema,” “All of The Chicks That I Screwed” and many more. Each performance has a potentially different outcome, as the pair is set to face the music and let the audience decide their eternal fate in this “judgement cabaret.”

Joined by “One-Man Nelson Riddle Orchestra” Nate Bulter of Fresno, CA on the keyboard, Bowman and Yarborough were a “Critic’s Pick” in Cincinnati CityBeat last year with The Famous  Haydell Sisters Comeback Tour . Upon premiering SHEnatra! at the Rogue Festival in Fresno, CA in March, reviewers acclaimed it as “another triumph. Razorsharp…blisteringly  funny…a mustsee” (Donald Munro, Fresno Bee).

They co-hosted the hit open mic SHOW & TELL at The Bowery Poetry Club for five years. Their wildly popular annual O’Debbie Awards Show garnered a Best of New York Award from The Village Voice. “Two of the smartest, most perverse gals in the city… They deserve more attention than most of this city’s conventional comedians.” – NY Press www.odebratwins.com

Daniel Park Presents YOU ARE THE HERO at Cincy Fringe

DANIEL PARK PRESENTS
YOU ARE THE HERO
A SPECIAL EVENT AS PART OF THE CINCY FRINGE FESTIVAL

CFF_You Are the Hero logo(CINCINNATI, OH) — As a special event in the 2016 Cincy Fringe Festival, Know Theatre of Cincinnati will host Daniel Park’s inventive performance event, YOU ARE THE HERO.

One part Legend of Zelda, one part theatre, YOU ARE THE HERO is your chance to save the world from Evil! Fresh off performances in New York and the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, this adventure hands the controls (and Starburst) to you. You’ll have to be brave, powerful, and wise to bring the story to a victorious end. But be careful, Game Over does exist.

CFF_You Are the Hero1YOU ARE THE HERO was conceived in 2014 by the show’s current performer and writer, Daniel Park. On his inspiration for the project, Park says, “I created the show because I noticed in myself, as well as in others, an unreasonable fear of doing what would make us happy.” The first round of development took place during Daniel’s time as a member of the Orchard Project, which has supported the likes of Dog and Pony DC, Taylor Mac, and the Rude Mechanicals.

CFF_You Are the Hero2One of the show’s most unique qualities is that, like a videogame, the audience can get Game Over. Park, who happens to work at a room escape game, says of the piece, “It exists to give audiences a way to concretely experience Happiness, Empowerment, and Action. And not just in the fictional world created inside of the show. If the players don’t act, the world will end, and the show is over. But, on the contrary, if they discover the Courage, Wisdom, and Power that they already have, they can save the world!” Approximately 40% of audiences have gotten game over.

“It involves Zelda and Coffee. If that doesn’t make a lot of sense, don’t worry. That’s why you should check out the almost too strange to describe YOU ARE THE HERO at this year’s FringeArts Festival.” ~ Bryan Butler for Philly Mag

ABOUT DANIEL
Daniel Park is a theatre and performance artist whose work has been performed internationally. His recent pieces explore the middle ground between games and theatre. In addition to YOU ARE THE HERO his body of work includes The Diamond Eye Collective: a game/theatre experience that took over Temple University’s library, turning the players into secret agents overthrowing a nefarious organization in the stacks, and We Need to Talk: an awkward, hilarious, and deeply human improvised performance that could best be described as a game of Dungeons and Dragons mashed up with your last relationship.
