Assistant Professor of Scenic Design Sought by NKU School of the Arts

Purpose of Position The Theatre & Dance Program is seeking an active, professional artist to join our collaborative, diverse, and vibrant program located in the artistically rich greater Cincinnati area. The School of the Arts at Northern Kentucky University offers a wide array of degree programs in the visual and performing arts.

The Theatre & Dance Program within the School of the Arts offers a BFA in Theatre Performance (with tracks in Acting, Musical Theatre, Dance Performance, Dance Pedagogy, and Playwriting), a BFA in Theatre Design, Technology, or Stage Management (with tracks in Theatre Design or Technology, and Stage Management), a BA in Theatre Arts, a Dance Minor, and a Theatre Minor. Primary Responsibilities Primary responsibilities include teaching design courses for the program, designing scenery, projections, and/or props for main-stage season productions, providing leadership and mentorship of students in the design area, and recruiting/mentoring majors within the design area of the program.

Possible teaching responsibilities may include scenic design, projection design and control, properties design and construction, scenic painting, drafting, fundamentals of design, and special topics in design.

Additional responsibilities may include painting, projections, and prop shop/lab student oversight.

Other duties will be assigned based on the candidate’s strengths and the needs of the program.

Responsibilities also include the development of a scholarly/creative agenda in research, performance, and/or professional creative activities.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
1. Master’s degree (MFA) required
2. Record of excellence in Scene Design with strengths in conceptual design, rendering
and/or modeling, drafting, and knowledge/demonstrated skill in scenic painting techniques.
3. Candidate should also have a breadth of professional creative activity.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Evidence of potential for a successful career in teaching.
2. Working knowledge of projection design and control for theatre/ entertainment.
3. Experience cultivating positive and collaborative relationships in the industry and region.
4. Ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and goals.
5. Strong organizational and communication skills to support the operation of a growing theatrical design and technology program.
6. Demonstrated success in recruiting and retaining students.
7. Candidates who have additional positive attributes/expertise/skills beyond the above qualifications are desirable and should reference these additional attributes in application materials.

Seeking Music Director for Holiday Cabaret with Ghostlight Stage Company

TGSC_logoA music director is needed to run music rehearsals and accompany vocalists for The Ghostlight Stage Company’s upcoming Holiday Cabaret on December 22, 2023. We encourage music directors from all different backgrounds to submit materials for consideration. We strongly encourage BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ music directors to submit their work, as we seek to uplift the voices of underrepresented artists.

Performance Venue: The Know Underground Stage

Rehearsal Space: First Financial Bank in Covington, KY

Contract: Nonunion

Pay Rate: $600 stipend (no more than 20 hours of in-person work, so stipend equates to $30+/hour)

Production: The Ghostlight Stage Company’s Holiday Cabaret

Director/Cabaret Emcee: Alyssa Batsakis

About the Event: This is a holiday cabaret that will feature solos and small group numbers. All songs will be either holiday themed, winter themed, or directly pulled from a musical that takes place in the winter/during the holidays.

Deadline for Submission: Submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis until October 20, 2023 at 5pm EST. All hiring decisions will be made by October 27, 2023. Applicants are encouraged to submit earlier, as The Ghostlight prefers to fill the position by early October if possible.

Submission Instructions: To submit, please use the email heading: “MD SUBMISSION.” In the body of your email please include where you are currently based, if you have housing available in the Greater Cincinnati area during the time of production and ALL CONFLICTS you may have between December 16-22, 2023. Attach a copy of your updated resume of relevant work history and a brief cover letter explaining your interest in the role and why you would make a good fit. Feel free to also include a portfolio of work and any relevant performance video links. Any links can be in the form of an unlisted or public youtube link or a google drive link so they can be easily accessed. Production Schedule

1st Possible Rehearsal: December 16, 2023
Opens/Closes: December 22, 2023

There will be 3-4 rehearsals that run approximately 6pm-9pm EST between December 16-20. A tech/final dress will be from 6pm-10pm on December 21. The performance will be on December 22 and the cast/crew/creative team will be needed from approximately 6pm-10pm, which includes: call time, performance and a small strike afterwards.

Company Manager Sought for SEE ME. HEAR ME. Tour at American Legacy Theatre

PROJECT
SEE ME. HEAR ME. is an original one-act play focused around family miscommunication, youth trauma stemming from isolation and gender identity, and career pathways in behavioral health all to reduce stigma around youth mental health services. Developed with A.L.T, in consultation with Ohio’s Dept of Mental Health and Addiction Services, this piece was written by Executive Artistic Director & CEO, Matthew David Gellin.

SEE ME. HEAR ME. is to be performed in a state-wide non-union tour to Ohio high schools. This will be a 6-person company – 4 actors, 1 stage manager, 1 company manager, 2 vans.

** Rehearsals and performances will be predominantly during the day time Monday through Friday. Weekends and evenings may be used for alternative performance times. Performances will be up to 5 days a week.**

TIMELINE

EXPECTATIONS
The Company Manager will structure, manage and execute the steps required to implement a high quality company management process that serves the integrity of the play, bonds the artists, aligns external scheduling, and heightens audience engagement with the piece. Attendance at all rehearsals and performances is a given.

Additional expectations: The Company Manager must have a valid driver’s license and insurance as they will be responsible for driving one of the two vans. ALT does provide insurance for drivers but needs to ensure they are insurable. Additionally they will be the primary contact at each school location and Dept. of Mental Health and Addiction Services for tour purposes. During the performance they will run front of house and give a pre-show speech. Company Manager will consolidate reports for ALT reporting, and help the process and production in other ways, as needed. Schools have an option to do a facilitated talk-back after each performance for up to 45 minutes that Company Manager will facilitate.

ALT staff will be available to assist with critical components along the way.

COMPENSATION
This is a seven-week contract at $1,000/week. Potential extension of tour is in consideration.

Candidates from outside of Cincinnati will be considered. Company Manager will be provided one round-trip ticket between their city of residence and Cincinnati. During the rehearsal period Company Manager will be provided accommodations. If accommodations are required, pay will be $500 for the week.

Successful background check will be required for this position.

TRAVEL

Schools have an option to do a facilitated talk-back after each performance for up to 45 minutes that Stage Manager will participate in.

ALT staff will be available to assist with critical components along the way.
