Auditions Announced for DEATHTRAP and I LOVE YOU, YOU’RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE at The Drama Workshop

Auditions for The Drama Workshop Fall Shows

TDW_VERT(Cheviot, OH) The Drama Workshop, the award-winning community theatre company based at The Glenmore Playhouse in Cheviot, is pleased to announce audition dates for its first two productions of the 2015-2016 season.

Auditions for the murder mystery thriller DEATHTRAP will be held Monday, May 4th, and Tuesday, May 5th.

Auditions for the musical I LOVE YOU, YOU’RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE will be held the following week, on Monday, May 11th, and Tuesday, May 12th. Callbacks for I LOVE YOU, YOU’RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE will be Monday, May 18th, if necessary. There are no callbacks scheduled for DEATHTRAP.

Auditions will be held at The Glenmore Playhouse, 3716 Glenmore Ave, Cheviot, OH 45211. Start time for all auditions is 7 pm; auditions will run no later than 9 pm, and may end earlier depending on the number of participants. Resumes and headshots are recommended. Doors will open each evening of auditions no later than 6:30 pm.

DEATHTRAP recounts the tale of a down-on-his-luck playwright, whose student tells him he has written the perfect suspense play and will bring it to the playwright’s Connecticut home. The suspense over whether the playwright will kill the student and take credit for his play forms the crux of this now-classic thriller. The show is written by Ira Levin, directed by Joe Penno, and produced by Ray Persing. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script singly and in groups.

I LOVE YOU, YOU’RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE is a celebration of the mating game that takes on the truths and myths behind that contemporary conundrum known as ‘the relationship.’ Covering the journey from dating and waiting to love and marriage to the agonies and triumphs of in-laws and newborns, trips in the family car and pick-up techniques of the geriatric set, this hilarious revue pays tribute to those who have loved and lost, to those who have fallen on their face at the portal of romance, and to those who have dared to ask, ‘Say, what are you doing Saturday night?’ The show’s book and lyrics are by Joe DiPietro, with music by Jimmy Roberts. TDW’s production is directed by Linda Abbott, and produced by Dennis Murphy and Elaine Volker. In addition to a resume and headshot, auditioners should prepare a 32-bar selection from a musical theatre piece, and bring the necessary sheet music. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script and vocal performance based on order of arrival. An accompanist will be provided. No CDs will be allowed.

Additional information on the parts for each show, as well as forms for actors wishing to audition, are posted on The Drama Workshop’s website at www.thedramaworkshop.org/auditions.

Auditions Announced for HEARTBREAK HOUSE at Dayton Theatre Guild

DTGOpen audition notice for HEARTBREAK HOUSE by George Bernard Shaw

Auditions will be held Mon & Tue, April 20 & 21, 2015, starting at 7:00 pm both nights.

The Dayton Theatre Guild at the Caryl D. Philip TheatreScape
430 Wayne Ave, Dayton OH, 45410
937-298-5993 — www.daytontheatreguild.org

Directed by Patrick Hayes
Produced by Kathy Mola

DOWNTON ABBY meets FAWLTY TOWERS in George Bernard Shaw’s scathingly satirical look at the social and political systems of Edwardian England leading up to the First World War. “England”, he says, “is a ship with a drunken captain and a negligent crew” so set a course for chaos in HEARTBREAK HOUSE.

Casting Requirements:

  • Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.
  • Please bring all conflicts between April 22 and June 14.
  • A résumé and headshot are not required but are appreciated.

-) CAPTAIN SHOTOVER
An eccentric retired sea captain and master of the house. He has two goals left in life: to learn how to explode dynamite with his mind and to attain the perfect state of tranquility, or as he calls it, the “seventh degree of concentration.” (The latter he achieves by drinking vast amounts of rum)

-) LADY ARIADNE (ADDY) UTTERWORD
Captain Shotover’s youngest daughter, age forty-two. Very pretty, blonde, and disorganized on the outside but turns out to be very competent. She has returned home after living overseas for over twenty years to find the house and its inhabitants greatly changed.

-) MRS. HESIONE (HESSY) HUSHABYE
Captain Shotover’s eldest daughter. She rebels against the role of domestic hostess she has been forced to play for many years and exults in excitement when the bombs start to fall.

-) HECTOR HUSHABYE
Hesione’s husband. He is somewhat of a dandy and shy with an impressive mustache. He makes up stories about adventures even though he has led a very adventurous life.

-) ELLIE DUNN
A young singer, whose romantic picture of the world is destroyed when she discovers that the man she is in love with isn’t who she thought he was. She is engaged to be married to Boss Mangan out of familial obligation.

-) MAZZINI DUNN
Ellie’s father, little, earnest man with absolutely no business sense at all.

-) ALFRED (BOSS) MANGAN
Fifty-five, business man, engaged to be married to Ellie Dunn. He is a factory owner and boss of Mazzini Dunn. By all appearances he is a very rich man.

-) BILLY DUNN (no relation)
An ex-pirate turned burglar who is captured when he tries to rob Heartbreak House.

-) NURSE GUINESS
Casual and impudent, she has been the captain’s housekeeper since “Addy” and “Hessy” were children. She tries to keep the chaos of the house in some manageable control.

-) RANDALL UTTERWORD
The younger brother of Ariadne’s husband. He looks like a gentleman and is apparently well mannered but turns out to be untalented, peevish, and childish. He is in love with Ariadne.

For more information, contact Producer Kathy Mola at kathy.mola@daytontheatreguild.org.

The show runs weekends May 29-June 14, 2015
First Weekend: Friday 8pm, Saturday 8pm, Sunday 3pm
Second & Third Weekend: Friday 8pm, Saturday 5pm, Sunday 3pm
