WHO: The Charles Avery Memorial – Keystone and Melissa M. Smith Technical scholarships are intended for any student that is continuing their technical theater education in the area(s) of: Set Design, Scenic Design, Construction, or Décor elements, Lighting Design, Sound Design, Costume Design, Makeup/Hair Design elements, Properties, Stage Management, or any combination of the above. The scholarship is open to college Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior students currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s degree program. Students must attend a college within 50 miles of the greater Cincinnati area and/or have a connection to one of our ACT Cincinnati member groups.
WHAT: Two (2) scholarships are awarded in the amounts of $700 and $1,000.
WHEN: Submissions are due no later than March 31, 2024 at 11:59pm ET.
All portions of the technical application must be completed and uploaded at the same time. Required items to be submitted digitally:

Additional materials to submit which speak to your skills, experience (focused or diverse), and interest in Technical theater overall:
- Letter(s) of recommendation
- Endorsements of past projects
- Pictures and/or short videos of set designs, set décor, lighting, sound, costumes, props, or makeup designs, models, drawings, or other elements you feel are relevant to your submission
- Written essay, addressing the following:
- How did your design and/or expertise contribute to the show?
- Describe what research you did for the given project beyond the script.
- What influenced your design/work for the production?
