Montreal, April 29, 2015 – The new Cirque du Soleil touring show inspired by James Cameron’s record-breaking movie AVATAR,  TORUK – The First Flight, will be presented at the U.S. Bank Arena on May 6-8, 2016, as part of a global tour in arenas around the world starting November 2015. The show is presented by Visa Signature.

The name
TORUK – The First Flight, inspired by James Cameron’s AVATAR, a live experience by Cirque du Soleil®, envisions a world beyond imagination set thousands of years before the events depicted in the film. The word Toruk, in the Na’vi language, refers to the great leonopteryx, the mighty red and orange predator that rules the Pandoran sky. Central in Na’vi lore and culture, this fascinating creature is crucial to the Na’vi clans’ sense of destiny and interconnectedness – and is about to be ridden for the very first time by a Na’vi.

TORUK – The First Flight will be presented at the U.S. Bank Arena on May 6-8, 2016. Tickets for those performances will be on pre-sale exclusively for Cirque Club members on April 30. Public on-sale will start May 8 at 10:00am. Tickets can be purchased at https://www.cirquedusoleil.com/toruk.

In the West Village of Manhattan, Jimmy Zoole, a thirty-ish actor is having a run of bad luck. He’s been robbed twice (they even took the only copy of his first novel), fired from a play, has a cat on the critical list, a girl friend who’s leaving, and he discovers a burglar hiding in his loft. To avenge his life, he ties “Vito” to the kitchen sink and keeps him prisoner over the long New Year’s Eve.

Auditions Announced for THE WIZ at Sinclair Community College

SCCT_logo2Sinclair Theatre will hold OPEN AUDITIONS for the fall production of THE WIZ beginning May 11th in the Black Box Theatre, building 2, room 411 on the downtown Dayton campus.

To be considered for THE WIZ, you must register and attend the dance audition on May 11th as well as the songs/monologue audition on May 12th. Callbacks will be held May 13th.

Open auditions means you do not have to be a Sinclair student or theatre major to audition as long as you are prepared with the following requirements and are willing to commit to a rigorous rehearsal schedule if cast.

Prepare two contrasting musical theatre song pieces of 32 bars and a 1-minute monologue. An accompanist will be provided so bring sheet music: NO A cappella, CD recordings or pop songs. Actors should bring a headshot and resume.

THE WIZ is under the direction of Chris Harmon with music direction by David McKibben.

Rehearsals will begin in August with performances in Sinclair’s Blair Hall Theatre Oct. 9-17.

CAAHow do the children of Greater Cincinnati see and interpret the world around them? The Cincinnati Arts Association (CAA) explores this question through its annual Student Art Show, which exhibits artwork by local students. This year’s theme is “(Under, By, In) the Sea.” The exhibition will be on display in the Aronoff Center’s Fifth Third Bank Theater (7th & Main Streets in downtown Cincinnati) from Saturday, May 2 – Sunday, May 10, 2015. Exhibition hours are Friday, 4:00 – 8:00 PM, Saturday, 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM, and Sunday 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM. The Student Art Show is free and open to the public.

Representing students from grades K – 8, the diverse collection of two-dimensional artwork will include mediums from pencil drawings to printmaking to textiles. Now in its 13th year, the Student Art Show is organized and presented annually by CAA’s Department of Education & Community Relations, with the assistance of the Weston Art Gallery.

“CAA is excited to continue to present the Student Art Show annually. Every year students create a unique interpretation of the theme,” says Kathleen Riemenschneider, CAA’s Assistant Director of Education & Community Relations. “The program has been a wonderful opportunity for students to creatively express and share their views with their friends, family, and the public.”

The 2015 Student Art Show has 200 entries; the largest number of entries since its inception. Student artwork from the following schools will be on display: Berry Intermediate (Lebanon, OH), Central Montessori Academy (Springfield Township, OH), Delshire Elementary (Delhi, OH),Eden Grove Academy (College Hill, OH), Erpenbeck Elementary (Florence, KY), Fairfield North (Fairfield, OH), Gray Middle School (Union, KY),Holy Trinity (Bellevue, KY), Mariemont Elementary (Mariemont, OH), Mercy Montessori Center (Walnut Hills, OH), New Miami Local School Elementary (New Miami, OH), Newport Primary (Newport, KY), Our Lady of the Visitation School (Bridgetown, OH), Springer School and Center (Hyde Park, OH), Springmyer Elementary (Bridgetown, OH), St. Ann’s Catholic School (Hamilton, OH), St. Boniface (Northside, OH), St. Ignatius School (Montfort Heights, OH), St. Joseph School Crescent Springs (Crescent Springs, KY), St. Louis School (Batesville, IN), St. Margaret of York (Loveland, OH), Sts. Peter & Paul (California Crossroads, KY), Summit Country Day School (Hyde Park, OH), Terrace Park Elementary (Terrace Park, OH), Winton Woods Middle School (Greenhills/Forest Park, OH), and Woodland Middle School (Taylor Mill, KY).

The student artwork includes such titles as “Shark Attack in the Bermuda Triangle,” “Happy by the Sea,” “Party by the Sea,” “The Big Fat Fish,” “A Dark Night of Fishing,” “ A Journey through the Sea,” “Taking in the Rays,” “The Wonders of the Sea,” and “Eight Legged Mystery.”

Based on the concept of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town, this project combines stories, written and performed by Sinclair students, about their experiences living in Dayton. Completing this unique idea is tying in the many bridges leading into Dayton as a symbol of uniting our community.
