2015-16 SEASON COMPRISED OF OLD AND NEW CLASSICS
COVINGTON, KY- The last year has heralded change for The Carnegie with the installation of new Theatre Director, Maggie Perrino, but the great shows, phenomenal talent, and welcoming atmosphere of The Carnegie Theatre Series remain the same. Taking a cue from last season’s blockbuster production of WEST SIDE STORY, the highest grossing show in The Carnegie’s history, this season will be chock full of hits that offer something for everyone.
The Carnegie is excited to announce its 2015-16 Theatre Series, inviting you to the historic Otto M. Budig Theatre in August for a little COMPANY. In November, The Carnegie takes on an air of mystery as it presents the comedy-thriller SLEUTH, a delightful game of cat-and-mouse that will keep audiences guessing right up until the end. A light, but creative staging of THE WIZARD OF OZ takes you away from the January winter blahs with a wonderful flight of fancy and THE LAST FIVE YEARS closes the season in April with spellbinding songs that will tug at your heartstrings.

Robert is single, but all of his friends are married. He envies their love and companionship, but can’t seem to part with his bachelor ways. On his 35th birthday, they surprise him with a cake and a birthday wish that will leave him pondering the life he’s chosen. Full of lively, idiosyncratic characters, in addition to some of Sondheim’s best known songs, COMPANY is a rollicking and reflective send up of the modern relationship. Both poignant and funny, anyone who’s been in love can find a little of themselves in this contemporary Broadway classic.
Winner of twelve Tony Awards (including “Best Musical”) in 1971 and three Tony Awards (including “Best Revival of a Musical”) in 2007, COMPANY is one of the most beloved musicals of the modern era. Famous mystery writer, Anthony Wyke, loves to play games. But when he finds out his wife plans to leave him for a young travel agent, he plots a game with murderous consequences. Of course, in a mystery, things are never quite as they seem and games can quickly get out of hand. A fast-paced comedy full of deception and mistaken identities, SLEUTH is a who-dun-it that will keep you riveted in your seat from start to finish.
SLEUTH is the winner of both Tony and Drama Desk awards for Best Play, and has been adapted for the silver screen several times over. This popular show is a mystery thrill-ride that audiences will want to take again and again.

We’re off to see THE WIZARD OF OZ at The Carnegie! Add a little fantasy and adventure to those gray January days with a trip to the Emerald City to see Dorothy, Toto and the rest of the colorful residents of Oz. Imaginatively reproduced for The Carnegie stage, and impeccably accompanied by The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, this classic tale is sure to delight fans both old and young.
Based on the hit MGM film, THE WIZARD OF OZ brings out the child in all of us with songs like “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” and “We’re Off to See the Wizard.” THE WIZARD OF OZ will be a lightly staged production reminiscent of our sold-out staging of THE SOUND OF MUSIC presented in 2014.
What does “lightly staged” mean? In a lightly staged production, music and storytelling take priority over the more physical aspects of the show. Audiences will see musicians onstage, beautiful costumes, evocative lighting, and creative settings. They will not see scripts in-hand, a multitude of props, or extensive scenic/costume changes.

THE LAST FIVE YEARS follows the joys and sorrows of Jamie and Cathy, a young couple struggling to find balance between career and relationship. In a creative twist that makes this show pure magic, we venture through their story following Jamie from the beginning of their romance to the end and following Cathy from the end to the beginning. However, their storytelling overlaps for just a moment, on the day of their wedding, for one of the most beautiful duets ever written for the musical theatre.
Beloved American composer, Jason Robert Brown, creates an extraordinarily captivating score that has been staged and sung the world over, and is now featured in the 2015 feature film starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan. This romantic drama is a night of theatre not to be missed.
