Cincy Fringe Encore of SOMETHING SOMETHING NEW VAGINA from Rebecca King

KNOW THEATRE and the CINCINNATI FRINGE FESTIVAL present
A Cincy Fringe Encore of SOMETHING SOMETHING NEW VAGINA from Rebecca Kling!

A solo performance about laughter, surgery, activism, and a brand new vagina.

CFF_Something Something New VaginaThe Cincinnati Fringe Festival and Know Theatre of Cincinnati are proud to announce the return of Rebecca Kling’s hit 2014 Fringe show, Something Something New Vagina. This Cincy Fringe Encore will take place January 9 & 10 at 8PM in The Underground at Know Theatre.

Something Something New Vagina is a solo performance about loving one’s self and one’s body. It’s also about a vagina: Rebecca Kling’s fancy new vagina. Prior to her performance of this show at the 2014 Cincy Fringe, Kling was seen in Cincinnati at the 2012 Fringe with Storms Beneath Her Skin. She’s delighted to be back (she was never one to call it clits) and is ready to tackle issues of identity without ovary-acting. Climaxing with a Strip Q&A, you’d be doing yourself a dis-cervix if you miss it.

Something Something New Vagina was a 2014 Cincinnati CityBeat Critic’s Pick.

About the Artist: Rebecca Kling is a transgender artist and educator who explores gender and identity through solo pieces and educational workshops. Her multidisciplinary performances incorporate conversational storytelling, personal narrative, humor, movement, and more. Kling takes the position that sharing accessible queer narrative with a wide audience is a form of activism, and that understanding combats bigotry. She regularly tours to colleges, universities, and theatre festivals across the country, and has received praise from media outlets coast to coast. In 2013, Kling was named as part of the inaugural Trans 100, a list celebrating excellence in the transgender community. In 2014, she was named as the as one of 25 Writers to Watch by the Guild Literary Complex.

Tickets for this Cincy Fringe Encore are just $15! Call our box office at 513-300-5669 or visit https://know.tixato.com/buy for tickets.

MamLuft&Co. Dance in Concert at the Aronoff, Jan. 9 & 10

CINCINNATI, OHIO — Cincinnati’s Modern Dance company MamLuft&Co. Dance performs its first-ever mixed repertory concert to take place on an Aronoff Center stage. The Company offers that this event — taking place January 9 & 10, 2015 at the downtown arts center — will be a refreshing change from the holiday season that immediately precedes it.

The dance company was recently named “Best Dance Company Pushing the Envelope” (2012) and described as “intrepid” and “impressive” by CityBeat. MamLuft&Co. Dance normally focuses on producing original, evening-length works. As such, a concert at the Aronoff consisting of only previously-premiered mixed-repertory from prior seasons has been unprecedented for the Company, now in its eighth season.

Having just completed a successful fall touring season (during which the Company of eight dancers performed in Chicago and Roanoke, Virginia), MamLuft&Co. Dance embarks on a home season at the Aronoff Center, first with MamLuft&Co. Dance in Concert, January 9 and 10, and then, the premiere of Memoriam (In Memory of Memory), May 22 and 23.

In MamLuft&Co. Dance in Concert, the Modern Dance troupe will perform the following recent favorites, in short-form adaptations from their original full-length versions:

Latitude (2012) is a dance-for-camera film created in five sites in Cincinnati on ML&Co.’s fifth anniversary.

Maps (2013) is an award-winning multi-media work about way-finding and getting lost in order to be found.

The Tragedy of Time (2014) is an emotional work inspired by expressionist prints around World War I. The piece highlights the love and loss of two main characters.

/SHIFT/ (2014) follows a community’s after a time-changing event, which converges on two rising leaders at odds.

Director and lead choreographer, Jeanne Mam-Luft, says of the performance line-up, “It’s been such a journey these last seven years, here in Cincinnati. Seeing four of our works from the past three seasons, right next to each other, is very illuminating, even for those of us involved. I think audiences will not only see our signature style, but they’ll also see our range. The technique and skills of the dancers amaze me every day, and it is quite a full show of work — very physical, very real. We’re grateful to be revisiting these works and hope Cincinnati will take the opportunity to either see them again in a different form or catch them after missing them the first time around.”

Tickets will be available at (513) 621-ARTS (2787) via the Cincinnati Arts Association box office at the Aronoff Center for the Arts (650 Walnut St., Cincinnati) or cincinnatiarts.org. Single tickets are available for $26 ($15 student and $19 senior tickets) or $40 for special, limited-availability VIP Package which include a pre-show backstage tour and gift bag with refreshments and ML&Co. photo notecards. Two-show Season Passes for MamLuft&Co. Dance’s Aronoff season are available for a savings ($72 VIP, $47 adults, $34 seniors, and $27 students).

MamLuft&Co. Dance gratefully acknowledges the operating support of the Ohio Arts Council, which helped fund this organization with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans. MamLuft&Co. Dance is a resident company of the Aronoff Center for the Arts and Clifton Cultural Arts Center, where it is sponsored by Mark McKillip.
