MOON OVER THE BREWERY Runs Sept. 12-21

LTC_Moon Over BreweryMOON OVER THE BREWERY
Presented by Lebanon Theatre Company
Sept. 12-21
Lebanon

Directed by Matthew Smith

Cast: Rachel Wilson as Miriam Lipsky, Alyssa Mehnert as Amanda Lipsky, Jay Fultz as Warren Zimmerman & David Stone as Randolph

A touching, gently humorous study of a precocious teenager’s “coming of age,” in which fantasy and reality are deftly juxtaposed to heighten the affecting message of the play. Miriam Lipsky, unmarried and living with her thirteen-year-old daughter, Amanda, works as a waitress to pay the bills, but it is her painting that really matters to her. Good subjects are scarce in the drab Pennsylvania coal town where they live, so Miriam dons a miner’s lamp and paints at night, when moonlight softens and transforms the stark landscape. Miriam is also desirous of male companionship, a need which the precocious Amanda (she has an IQ of 160) has discouraged by driving away suitor after suitor with her barbed comments. Amanda, compensating for the lack of a father, has also created an imaginary friend, Randolph, who appears (only to her) in a resplendent white suit and provides mischievous advice and guidance.

CINCINNATI,— August 13, 2014— Cincinnati Shakespeare Company officially opens their 2014-2015 season with the highly anticipated production of the Regional Premiere of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby” adapted for the stage by Simon Levy.  This production is directed by Cincinnati Shakespeare’s Producing Artistic Director, Brian Isaac Phillips and features Cincinnati Shakespeare’s Resident Ensemble of actors including Jared Joplin, Justin McCombs, Sara Clark and Kelly Mengelkoch.  The Ensemble is generously sponsored by BKD and Taft and the Design is sponsored by Legg Mason.

It is the height of prohibition and young Nick Carraway (Justin McCombs) has taken up residence in Long Island’s “West Egg”, home to the nouveau riche near his cousin Daisy Buchannan (Sara Clark). He is soon befriended by his neighbor, the mysterious Jay Gatsby (Jared Joplin), and is drawn into his glitzy, if garish, world of lavish parties and secret speakeasies. But as Gatsby’s secretive past is uncovered and his intentions revealed, Nick finds himself a pawn in a love triangle so scandalous, it threatens to destroy all those around him.  This American classic is a poignant examination of America in the early twentieth century, exploring the notions of love, morality, identity and the corruption of the American Dream.  F. Scott Fitzgerald’s best known and most beloved work, “The Great Gatsby” finally comes to the stage in this exclusive new adaption by Simon Levy.

“The Great Gatsby” is a 1925 novel written by American author F. Scott Fitzgerald and is widely considered to be a literary classic and a contender for the title of the Great American Novel.  The story has been told in many art forms including opera, radio, and ballet as well as in film including the 1974 film directed by Francis Ford Coppola starring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow, and the most recent 2013 version directed by Baz Luhrmann staring Leonardo DeCaprio.  This new adaptation of “The Great Gatsby” by Simon Levy for the stage is the only one authorized and granted exclusive rights by the Fitzgerald Estate and is the only version permitted to be produced in the US and Canada.  The play had its world premiere at The Guthrie Theater and was subsequently produced by Seattle Repertory Theatre. In 2012 a revised/reworked version was produced at Arizona Theatre Company and Grand Theatre in London, Ontario, Canada. In September, it is receiving its regional premiere in Cincinnati by Cincinnati Shakespeare Company!

For additional information or for interviews with any member of the cast or company contact Jeanna Vella, Director of Education and Communications as jeanna.vella@cincyshakes.com or 513.381.2273 ext. 3202.

CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF Runs Sept. 12-21

Scot Knisley as Brick, Cheryl Mellen as Big Mama & Sarah Caplan as Mae.

CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF
Presented by Beavercreek Community Theatre
Sept. 12-21
Beavercreek

Directed by Michael Boyd

Cast: Saul Caplan as Big Daddy, Cheryl Mellen as Big Mama, Scott Knisley as Brick, Megan Cooper as Maggie, Sarah Caplan as Mae “Sister Woman,” Jeremey Gingrich as Gooper “Brother Man,” Dave Gaylor as Doc Baugh, Sierra Smith as Dixie, Annie Chiles as Trixie, Nicholas Chiles as Scooter, and Drew Coleman as Ralph

In a plantation house, a family celebrates the sixty-fifth birthday of Big Daddy, as they sentimentally dub him. The mood is somber, despite the festivities, because a number of evils poison the gaiety: greed, sins of the past and desperate, clawing hopes for the future spar with one another as the knowledge that Big Daddy is dying slowly makes the rounds. Maggie, Big Daddy’s daughter-in-law, wants to give him the news that she’s finally become pregnant by Big Daddy’s favorite son, Brick, but Brick won’t cooperate in Maggie’s plans and prefers to stay in a mild alcoholic haze the entire length of his visit. Maggie has her own interests at heart in wanting to become pregnant, of course, but she also wants to make amends to Brick for an error in judgment that nearly cost her her marriage. Swarming around Maggie and Brick are their intrusive, conniving relatives, all eager to see Maggie put in her place and Brick tumbled from his position of most-beloved son. By evening’s end, Maggie’s ingenuity, fortitude and passion will set things right, and Brick’s love for his father, never before expressed, will retrieve him from his path of destruction and return him, helplessly, to Maggie’s loving arms.

Thursday performances on Aug. 14 and 21 are Pay What You Can performances. Patrons can see this critically acclaimed play for a donation.

The theater is also offering half-priced Rush Tickets at the door 15 minutes before any performance. Rush Tickets must be paid for in cash. In addition, any patron may bring in a can or box of nonperishable food to donate to the Christian Help Center and receive an additional $1 off per item, up to $5.

Supporting this show is the best way to support the Batavia Theatre Project and help us continue to offer free Shakespeare in Sycamore Park and other services.”
