CenterStage Players is now casting for our special fundraiser production of THE AWESOME ’80S PROM.
Those interested in auditioning, are requested to send an e-mail to the director (Fred Hunt) at nwlsdhunt@fuse.net and include NAME, AGE, E-MAIL, RESUME (if you have one), and CONTACT PHONE NUMBER. The director will contact applicants to arrange an audition time to occur at a mutually convenient time over the next few weeks. Those auditioning should prepare a short monologue of similar characters to those below from the 80’s era (for example Say Anything, Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club). For this audition, TV & film monologues are encouraged. If confirmed with the director in advance, reading from the script may be substituted for the monologue (as part of a group audition).
THE AWESOME ’80S PROM is a blast-from-the-past party in the style of Tony ‘n Tina’s Wedding and The Donkey Show set at Wanaget High’s Senior Prom… in 1989! All your favorite characters from your favorite ’80s movies are at THE PROM, from the Captain of the Football Team to the Asian Exchange Student, from the Geek to the hottie Head Cheerleader, and they’re all competing for Prom King and Queen. And just like on “American Idol”, the audience decides who wins!
CenterStage Players are seeking exuberant performers who are skilled improvisational actor/comedians (or performers excited about giving it a shot)! The performers who will appear in the show must have strong comedic instincts, the ability to “work a room” and for most roles, they must be able to believably play a high school senior. Actors are asked to refer to the cast list below to determine which character(s) they wish to audition for.
Performances will be for two nights only – Friday, February 6th and Saturday, February 7th, 2015 at the North College Hill City Center – 1500 W. Galbraith Road – Cincinnati, OH 45231. Proceeds from this production will be combined with a generous grant from SummerFair to improve climate controls in our theater. All rehearsals will be held at the North College Hill City Center starting at the beginning of January.
The following “High School ” roles will be cast:
- Blake – The Captain of the Football Team. A Charming, egotistical jock. Think “Jake” in 16 Candles.
- Louis – The Nerd. Introverted, computer geek. Think Anthony Michael Hall in 16 Candles.
- Fender – The Bad Boy. Mean, defensive, loud. Think Judd Nelson in The Breakfast Club.
- Michael Jay – The Class President. A young Republican/born politician. A Guy- Smiley game show host type. Think Michael J. Fox on Family Ties.
- Feung – The Asian Exchange Student. Charismatic, speaks little English. Think Long Duk Dong in 16 Candles.
- Dickie The Drama Queen. Flamboyant, fabulous and bitter. Sings “Don’t Rain on My Parade” like Barbara Streisand. Think Ducky in Pretty in Pink mixed with Jack from Will & Grace.
- Beef – A football player. Big and intimidating, but not too bright. Think Chris Farley
- The Heathers – Cheerleader #1 and #2. Whitley’s back up cheerleaders. Will cheer/dance.
- Kerrie – The Spaz. Petite. A sweet but hyper nerd. In love with Blake. Surprisingly cute, once she removes the glasses and headgear.
- Missy – The Head of the Prom Committee. Perfect. Way too perky. Think Reese Witherspoon in Election.
- Whitley – The Head Cheerleader. Attractive, sexy, bitchy, and vain. Thinking “Heathers.” Must cheer and dance.
- Inga – The Swedish Exchange Student. Tall and voluptuous. Speaks with a heavy accent.
- Molly Parker – A freshman. A member of the Freshman Cheerleading Squad and the Yearbook Committee.
- Lloyd Parker – Her twin (less cool) brother.
Adult roles will also be filled, including:
- DJ Johnny Hughes – The DJ. Extremely charismatic host who can warm up a crowd. Runs dance contest, etc. Stand-up comedians, karaoke hosts, etc. all encouraged to audition. Must have high energy and an infectious energy that can keep a party going.
- Mr. Snelgrove – The Principal. A fascist dictator. Think the principal in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
- Mrs. Lascalzo – The Drama Teacher. A leftover hippie who loves everyone. A little clueless.
- Mystery Guest – A 1980’s celebrity impersonator (i.e. Madonna, Michael Jackson, MC Hammer, Prince). Who performs (or lip syncs) one song at the height of the PROM.
