OTHER DESERT CITIES Runs Sept. 4-22

ETC_Other Desert CitiesOTHER DESERT CITIES
Presented by Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati
Sept. 4-22
Over-the-Rhine

Reviews: Behind the Curtain | CityBeat | Enquirer | Broadway World Cincy |

Directed by D. Lynn Meyers

Cast: Sara Mackie as Brooke Wyeth, Dennis Parlato as Lyman Wyeth, Amy Warner as Polly Wyeth, Dale Hodges as Silda Grauman & Ryan Wesley Gilreath as Trip Wyeth

A new play by the creator of TV’s hit drama Brothers and Sisters, this searing comedy was named the Outstanding Play by the Outer Critics Circle and called “the best new play on Broadway” by The New York Times. When a once-promising novelist returns home to Palm Springs to visit her parents, conflict ensues after she reveals the imminent publication of her juicy tell-all memoir—a book that focuses on the politically explosive and tragic death of her antiwar-activist brother. With her parents trying to cling to their Reaganesque social status, the family is thrown into turmoil and must come to grips with its painful past. This critically acclaimed new play crackles with wit, razor-sharp one-liners, a fierce cast of characters, and a storyline that grabs you from the opening scene to its riveting conclusion.

45 SECONDS FROM BROADWAY Runs Aug. 23-Sept. 8

DTG_35 Seconds from Broadway45 SECONDS FROM BROADWAY
Presented by Dayton Theatre Guild
Aug. 23-Sept. 8
Dayton

Directed by Fred Blumenthal
Produced by K.L.Storer

Cast: Saul Caplan as Mickey Fox, K.L.Storer as Andrew Duncan, Marcus Simmons II as Solomon Mantutu, Dave Nickel as Bernie, Mary Mykytka as Megan Woods, Debra A. Kent as Arlene, Debra Strauss as Cindy, Patty Bell as Raylean, John Spitler as Charles, Terry Larson as Zelda, Gail Andrews Turner as Bessie & Steve Kantor as Harry Fox

America’s comedy master sets this piece in the “Polish Tearoom,” a place not unlike the real Hotel Edison coffee shop in NYC where Simon once sipped coffee while meeting with other entertainment pros. In this warm and gentle comedy of remembrance, show business insiders, Broadway wannabes and the occasional tourist traipse in and out, each with a unique story. All the while a 60-ish Borsht Belt standup, Mickey Fox, dispenses one-liners, negotiates with a London producer and deals with a very needy brother-in-law.

Call for Director Submissions for BPI’s 2014-2015 Season

BPI_logo12Beechmont Players invites all qualified area directors to submit an application to direct in Beechmont Players, Inc.’s 2014-2015 season.

As the Arts Organization in Residence at the Anderson Center, BPI has the privilege of presenting its productions in the Anderson Center’s beautiful 223-seat proscenium theater. With our large audience base, BPI typically fills this theater with approximately 1,000 audience-members over each production’s run. BPI now has a storage/build facility, where set designers and builders can take full advantage of the theater’s plentiful stage space by building the set in advance. This space can even allow rehearsals on the set at the build facility. BPI welcomes directors, design teams, and crew-members new to our group, while maintaining an active and talented membership that is ready to step up to help make each show a success.

Interested in joining us for our 55th season? Please submit up to five plays and/or musicals that you would like to direct in BPI’s 2014-2015 season. If scripts for the shows you are presenting are not available at the Hamilton County Public Library, please submit a copy for the Play Reading Committee (if you do not have a copy and would like assistance obtaining a copy, please let me know). Please consider the group, our audience, and our theater when suggesting shows to present. For additional information about our group and a list of our productions since 2008, please visit our website at www.beechmontplayers.org.

For your reference, we have polled our membership and board, and have compiled the following list of show suggestions. Please note that your submissions need not be culled from this list. These are merely suggestions to give you an idea of the type of shows we are interested in producing.

Musicals

  • Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Julie Styne/Anita Loos (Tams-Witmark)
  • 1776*, Sherman Edwards/Peter Stone (MTI)
  • Nunsense, Dan Goggin (Samuel French, Inc.)
  • How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Frank Loesser/Burrows,Weinstock, and Gilbert (MTI)

Plays

  • The Women, Clare Boothe Luce (Dramatists)
  • The Trip to Bountiful, Horton Foote (Dramatists)
  • Charley’s Aunt, Brandon Thomas (Samuel French, Inc.)
  • The Importance of Being Earnest, Oscar Wilde
  • Whodunnit, Anthony Shaffer (Samuel French, Inc.)

Attached herewith, please find a Director Application. Please fill out and return this Application, along with a current theatrical resume, to me by September 27, 2013. You may submit these items to me at the address above, or via e-mail to Becky@BeechmontPlayers.org. Please indicate your availability for production dates, as well as your availability for Director Interviews on the Director Application.

Please note that the group would like to produce at least one musical in the 2014-2015 season. Please note, also, that we prefer the Summer production be a family-friendly show. This does not necessarily need to be a show with children in it, but should at least be appropriate for children to watch.

For the Director Interviews, you will be asked to present up to three shows, though the Play-Reading Committee may ask you about the other two shows you submitted. Director Interviews will take place on Thursday, November 14, and Friday, November 15.

Thank you for your interest in Beechmont Players, Inc. I look forward to receiving your submission!

Sincerely,
Becky Krausser
