A vaudeville style opera about the housing bubble, an opera about Paula Deen, two operas about relationships gone bad, really bad, and all of it gets done in about an hour. It’s a night of unexpected twists in four unexpectedly short American operas.

Meet Kyle and Dylan — two incredibly different men, each struggling with the same set of troubles and quandaries: who am I, and what is my life? Am I brave? Am I happy with what’s happening to me? Or is it just happening? One in his work cubicle and the other in his tiny Hell’s Kitchen studio, existing side by side, they are trapped in separate worlds that never converge except through the telephone wire. The two realize that they’re both facing an overwhelming fear. In this story, Kyle and Dylan find they are able to find counsel in each other — and maybe more.

From the creators of last year’s sold out hit Radio Star comes Shut UP, Emily Dickinson, a pseudo-historical, quasi-biographical psycho-romance about America’s most annoying poetess. Holed up in her bedroom for eternity, crazy old Emily Dickinson unsuccessfully woos the object of her affection, a disembodied voice. She’s a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma smothered in mental illness on a bed of terrible personality.

CFF13: QUESTIONS OF THE HEART: GAY MORMONS AND THE SEARCH FOR IDENTITY

QUESTIONS OF THE HEART is an exploration of the often painful intersection of religious faith and sexuality. Ben Abbott—a straight, practicing Mormon—interviewed a dozen men and women of his faith who are gay (or are closely connected to someone who is) and crafted this play based on both the interviews and his journey coming to terms with them. It is a solo performance: Abbott plays the Interviewer as well as the subjects, taking dialogue directly from the transcripts and displaying the vast range of experiences, attitudes, and journeys of those he interviewed.
