Panelists for the League of Cincinnati Theatres (LCT) have recognized Untethered Theatre‘s Red Light Winter with 4 LCT nominations as well as distinguishing it as a recommended production: Direction (Paul Morris), Lead Actor (Carter Bratton and Jon Kovach) and Lead Actress (Mindy Heithaus).

One of the most provocative plays of the past decade, the Pulitzer Prize-nominated Red Light Winter reminds us that the past – no matter how much you’d like to forget, or what you choose to remember – is never far behind. Matt can talk about the world at length even if he’s too emotionally muddled to participate in it. Davis is the eternal life of the party. These college pals take one last stab at their 20s with a trip to Amsterdam, where a night with the beguiling prostitute Christina changes everything.

Panelists praised Paul Morris for his attention to detail and using the theatre space to its best advantage: “the small, intimate space…heightens the experience, as you are THERE in the middle of this seething, sexy, manic, off-the-wall interplay.” Panelists raved about Mindy Heithaus’ “unflinching” portrayal of Christine: “She was, at turns, sexy, vulnerable, and sophisticated”; “this is a brave actress, and she uses her body as a force that blasts this play to another level.” Jon Kovach played “the sensitive, over-intellectual, and befuddled Matt with perfection”, while Carter Bratton was “outstanding” as Davis: “a difficult, almost impossible role to pull off—he did a fine job of it.” Overall, the panelists called Red Light Winter “a special production”: “captivating entertainment, perfectly played by three extraordinary actors.”

Red Light Winter continues through February 2nd. Tickets can be purchased at www.untetheredtheatreco.com.

Final LCT awards will be determined at the end of the season and announced at the LCT gala in the spring.
