Falcon Theatre is proud to announce Auditions for its first summer Murder Mystery:
HOW DO YOU SPELL M-U-R-D-E-R?
An Interactive Mystery in three acts
Written and Directed by Isaac B. Turner
What could be more delightful than a classic case of Who Done It? Victim and suspects trapped under one roof, vital clues in full view, and the ever present question, Who? This 1920s caper set in St. Louis, rolls into action when two couples arrive on a paddlewheel steamboat headed for the Tallstacks Music, Arts and Heritage Festival in Cincinnati. The Youngs are honeymooning. The Crazees are on a little get away, before heading off to Paris. An unexpected guest arrives on the levee, and things get messy for everyone onboard, including the crew. Captain Grant and his daughter, must do what they can to keep everything under control when one of their guests turns up…..dead! Who Done It? How is this group of strangers connected to this murder? Only the detective can resolve this mystery, relying on the audience to help solve the crime. With five possible endings, the outcome of each performance is controlled by the audience!
Auditions: Monday, June 18 and Tuesday, June 19 at 7pm at the Monmouth Theatre, 636 Monmouth Street, Newport, KY 41071
Rehearsals begin Monday, June 25. Sunday-Friday, 6:30-10:30pm, Saturdays 10am-2pm
OFF: Friday, June 29 and Wednesday, July 4
Performances: July 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29 and August 3, 4. Friday and Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 3pm
Each Actor will be paid a performance stipend.
We are looking for actors with a strong sense of stylized period comedy. Actors must also be comfortable with light Improv. The audition is by appointment only, and will consist of cold readings. All auditionees should arrive at 7pm to fill out audition forms and receive scripts. Please bring a picture and resume for our files.
Because this is a new play, sides are available by request, upon scheduling an audition appointment. To reserve an audition appointment, contact the director, by replying to this email. Please let the director know which day you wish to audition, and whether or not you’d like an electronic copy of the sides sent to you.
Cast of Characters:
Ulysses S. Grant IV: A kindly riverboat captain, with a timeless nature. Knowledgable, but somewhat befuddled, his mind is cluttered with way too many useful things…think Peter Falk as Columbo. A loving father and a passionate boater, the “Ulysses S. Lee” is his home.
Allison Grant: a 1920s dame. Though quite feminine, she is strong and she doesn’t shy away from work. Not prone to gender stereotypes, Allison is the Purser aboard the “Ulysses S. Lee”, her father’s steam boat. Born and raised on the water, Allison uses her travel to spread the word that women can do anything men can, but better.
Jack Young: a 1920s banker, handsome, confident, intelligent and business minded. Jack is very much in love, and wants nothing more than to provide for his lovely wife, who he is trying to convince to give up her dreams of the silver screen, and start a family. (Also plays ROBERT.)
Robert Young: Jack Young’s twin brother, alike in most every way, except that Robert practices law. He is not married. Appearance aside, Robert is a complete stranger to everyone, or is he?
Marcel Crazee: a 1920s gentleman, charismatic, enigmatic, sincere but mysterious. He speaks in an exaggerated French dialect. He is a renaissance man, who dabbles in fine art, aviation and rare jewels. Marcel is “married” to Vivienne. He is dressed in 1870’s clothing.
Vivienne Crazee: a 1920s femme fatale. She is attractive, boisterous and somewhat superficial. A bit too mysterious, she speaks in an exaggerated French dialect. Vivienne has held many “careers” in her lifetime. She is dressed in 1870’s clothing.
Loretta Young: a 1920s ingenue, pretty, sincere, intelligent but naive. She comes from a long line of film actors, and aspires to get her big break in the family business…one day. For now, Loretta is so much in love, that she’s happy just being Mrs. Jack Young. Newly married, she and Jack are off to Cincinnati for their honeymoon.
