Johnny, Tunny and Will struggle to find meaning in a post-9/11 world. When they decide to flee the constraints of their hometown for the thrills of city life, their paths are quickly estranged when Tunny enters the armed forces, Will is called back home to attend to familial responsibilities, and Johnny’s attention becomes divided by a seductive love interest and a hazardous new friendship. Winner of two Tony Awards, AMERICAN IDIOT is a high-octane, energy-fueled rock opera, featuring every song from Green Day’s album, AMERICAN IDIOT, as well as several songs from its follow-up release, 21ST CENTURY BREAKDOWN. Adult language and situations, including drug use and wartime violence. Haze and intense stroble lighting are used during the performance.

9/2/21 Covid-19 Policy: In accordance with Xavier University’s COVID regulations, all individuals are required to wear masks while inside buildings on campus, including during theatrical performances in the Gallagher Student Center Theatre. Audience members will be asked to leave, without refund, if masks are not worn during the performance.

Performances Suspended at Xavier University Theatre

XUT_logoXavier University, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, has moved to remote instruction for the remainder of spring semester.

Unfortunately, we will be canceling our upcoming productions of THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES and VOICES FOR CHANGE. Our box office staff will be contacting all patrons that have already purchased tickets to these performances to offer them a refund. This process will begin over the weekend. AMERICAN IDIOT is currently postponed.

As more information comes available about that production, we will again contact our audiences directly. Thank you for your support of the students in the Xavier Theatre program. We wish you all safety and health over the upcoming weeks as we work together to protect our communities!

On March 16, Xavier will move to remote instruction through April 14 due to concerns over the coronavirus (COVID-19). Xavier Theatre will be suspending spring performances through April 14. We are actively engaged in discussions to identify alternative dates for our productions. We will be proactive in contacting our audiences once plans are in place for how we will move forward.

In the meantime, we wish everyone to be safe and healthy in the upcoming weeks as we take the necessary steps to care for our community!

An Obie Award-winning whirlwind tour of a forbidden zone, THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES introduces a wildly divergent gathering of female voices, including a six-year-old girl, a New Yorker, a vagina workshop participant, a woman who witnesses the birth of her granddaughter, a Bosnian survivor of rape, and a feminist happy to have found a man who “liked to look at it.” Adult language and situations.
