DIXIE SWIM CLUB Runs Feb. 19-20

TREE_Dixie Swim Club logoDIXIE SWIM CLUB
Tree County Players
Feb. 19-20
Greensburg City Hall [Greensburg, Ind.]

Directed by Michal Pennington

Cast: Jennifer Schwipps as Sheree Hollinger, Regina Siefert as Lexi Richards, Marcia Grant as Dinah Grayson, Lois Schrott as Vernadette Simms & Michal Pennington as Jeri Neal McFeeley

Five Southern women, whose friendships began many years ago on their college swim team, set aside a long weekend every August to recharge those relationships. Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina’s Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other’s lives. THE DIXIE SWIM CLUB focuses on four of those weekends and spans a period of thirty-three years. As their lives unfold and the years pass, these women increasingly rely on one another, through advice and raucous repartee, to get through the challenges (men, sex, marriage, parenting, divorce, aging) that life flings at them. And when fate throws a wrench into one of their lives, these friends, proving the enduring power of “teamwork,” rally ’round their own with the strength and love that takes this comedy in a poignant and surprising direction. THE DIXIE SWIM CLUB is the story of these five unforgettable women—a hilarious and touching comedy about friendships that last forever.

Auditions Announced for VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE at Tree County Players

TREE_logoAuditions for VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE will be held at the Tree County Players office (327 S. Monfort St., Greensburg, IN) on Friday , January 15 from 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM and Saturday, January 16 from 9:30 AM – noon. The show will be performed April 14, 15 and 16, 2016. Rehearsals begin in early March.

Winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play, Christopher Durang, the master of comedy, takes characters and themes from Chekhov, pours them into a blender and mixes them up. The utterly hilarious and occasionally touching result is his latest play set in present day Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Vanya and his stepsister Sonia have lived their entire lives in their family’s farmhouse. While they stayed home to take care of their ailing parents, their sister Masha has been gallivanting around the world as a successful actress and movie star, leaving Vanya and Sonia to feel trapped and regretful, Their soothsayer/cleaning woman Cassandra keeps warning them about terrible things in the future, which include a sudden visit from Masha and her twenty-something boy toy Spike. Broad comic acting is raised to the level of high art…deliriously funny…a heedless good time. ADULT THEMES and LANGUAGE.

Six roles to be cast by actors who can convincingly portray the following:

  • Vanya: 50’s – intelligent, cynical, nostalgic, playwright, resigned to his life more or less (at least compared to Sonia).
  • Sonia: His adopted sister, early 50’s, mousey, discontented, resentful, melancholy, imitates Maggie Smith (needs a British accent).
  • Masha: Vanya’s and Sonia’s sister. 50’s, diva, cougar, self-centered, glamorous and successful actress who goes gallivanting around the world.
  • Spike: An aspiring actor, 29 or younger, Masha’s new companion, sexy, self-absorbed, very fit, muscular, not the brightest crayon in the box, comfortable being on stage in boxer shorts .
  • Nina: Lovely, sincere, would-be actress, early 20’s, visiting her aunt and uncle next door, star struck and energetic.
  • Cassandra: Cleaning lady and soothsayer, any age, dramatic, comic ability.

Auditioners will be asked to read dialogue from the script, interact with other potential cast members, complete an information form and provide rehearsal conflicts.

Audition appointments may be made by calling director, Therese Zins (812-528-5289). Audition appointments are recommended, but walk in’s are welcome.
