THE GOLDEN GOOSE Runs Jan. 16-18

THE GOLDEN GOOSE
Town Hall Theatre
Jan. 16-18
[Centerville]

Simple and naïve Frederick, nicknamed “Dumbkopf” by his two older brothers, convinces Papa to let him go into the forest to cut wood. His brothers had already tried, but they both had peculiar accidents that left them injured after refusing to share their rations with a mysterious Old Woman. But the kind-hearted Dumbkopf doesn’t hesitate to share his meager food supply with the Old Woman. To reward him, the Old Woman helps him find the magical Golden Goose. As Dumbkopf leaves the forest with the enchanted bird, he hilariously encounters a variety of townspeople who all become stuck fast to each other when they reach out to touch it. You can just imagine the sight of Dumbkopf carrying the mystical goose with a human chain attached! No wonder this uproarious parade makes the princess of the kingdom laugh for the first time in her life! The king and queen had desperately been trying to put a smile on their princess’s face, bringing in clowns, comics …  anything to bring out a chuckle.

AN ENCHANTED BOOKSHOP CHRISTMAS Runs Dec. 12-21

AN ENCHANTED BOOKSHOP CHRISTMAS
Town Hall Theatre
Dec. 12-21
[Centerville]

As the play begins, it’s four days before Christmas and Miss Margie, the scatterbrained owner of the shop, is thrilled to have two very special guests — her serious-minded sister Ellen and book-loving niece Annabelle. Ellen was recently laid off from her position as an astronomy professor, and she’s certain she’ll never find a job again. Her luck changes, however, when high-tech billionaire Philip Brantley stops in at the shop and Margie convinces him to hire Ellen for his new space project. With Ellen out shopping, Margie has a brainstorm to wrap the bookmark that Philip wrote his phone number on and give it to Ellen as a Christmas present. After all, what could possibly go wrong? When the present disappears, it’s up to our come-to-life book characters to solve the mystery of the missing bookmark and save the day for Ellen — all without giving away their magical existence.

STONE SOUP
Town Hall Theatre
Oct. 17-19
[Washington Township]

The town of Whisker has been terrorized by dragons.  When two knights vanquish the monsters, they are instant celebrities.  Unfortunately, Lillian Scum hates the knights because she wants all honor for destroying the dragons to go to Rafferty, her very handsome (yet rather unintelligent) son.  She has all but given up on Rocky, her gentle, eldest son, who wants to become a chef.  Imagine her glee when Rafferty discovers that the knights are really girls in disguise.  Now, everybody knows a ’girl’ can’t fight dragons, so Rafferty and his mother succeed in convincing the town that HE won the dragon fight.  Rocky comes to the knights’ defense, but the citizens turn their back on him.  They even refuse to give him and the two girls a bite to eat!  But Rocky won’t give up and he helps the knights cook up a pot of that old favorite — STONE SOUP.
