Director and Playwright Call for Queen City Queer Theatre Collective

QCQTC_logoThe Queen City Queer theatre seeks Playwrights and Directors for its 2016 season.

QCQTC produces staged readings every second Monday of the month at Below Zero Lounge and is now accepting script submissions for readings starting January 11th of 2015.

All proposed titles should address the companies mission to challenge theatre convention. This may manifest itself plot points which deal with gender and sexuality, but can also branch further to envision queer theatre that is also innovative in form and presentation.

Playwrights:
Please include a copy or preview of your proposed script. You may submit up to 3 original works/ideas. Please include in your submission your vision for the work- (if you would like it to be developed in a workshop setting, if you have any directors/artists in mind etc.)

Directors:
Please send resume, and up to 3 suggested titles you would be interested in directing.

**Please indicate in your submission which dates you would be available/interested in creating this work. (1/11, 2/8, 3/14, 4/11, 5/9, 6/13, 7/11, 8/8, 9/12, 10/10, 11/14, 12/12)

Keep in mind we typically run a short rehearsal process consisting of anywhere from 2-4 rehearsals in the week leading up that are determined by the artists schedules.

Please send submissions and any inquiries to Lindseyamercer@gmail.com by December 31st.

QUEERBARET on Nov. 9

Queen City Queen Theatre Collective
Nov. 9
Below Zero Lounge [Over-the-Rhine]

Performers include: Darnell Pierre Benjamin, Patrick E. Phillips, Lindsey Augusta Mercer, Ryan Church, Erin McCamley & Sherry McCamley

We celebrate QCQTC’s 1st birthday with an evening of songs, scenes, and monologues performed by some of the artists from our inaugural year! These cabaret numbers aren’t just any old thing either- our artists were given the opportunity to personally select material they love, but would never otherwise be cast to perform- breaking down boundaries of type, age, gender and other conventions that limit creativity.

Oct. 12
Below Zero Lounge [Over-the-Rhine]

Directed by Torie Wiggins

Cast: Jared Earland, Erin Carr, Mike Hall, Spenser Smith, Sara Kenny, Darnell Pierre Benjamin & Annie Kalahurka

This is the probing, hilarious and provocative story of Sidney, a disenchanted Greenwich Village intellectual, his wife Iris, an aspiring actress, and their colorful circle of friends and relations. Set against the shenanigans of a stormy political campaign, the play follows its characters in their unorthodox quests for meaningful lives in an age of corruption, alienation and cynicism. With compassion, humor and poignancy, the author examines questions concerning the fragility of love, morality and ethics, interracial relationships, drugs, rebellion, conformity and especially withdrawal from or commitment to the world.
