Panelists for the League of Cincinnati Theatres (LCT) have recognized Northern Kentucky University’s production of ROYAL GAMBIT with an LCT nomination for Costume Design (Brian Horton) as well as distinguishing it as a recommended production.

In ROYAL GAMBIT, King Henry VIII has everything he wants, except a suitable heir. His legacy is all too well known, but what about the women he wooed? In this portrait of the infamous king and the six women in his life, Henry remains the same throughout but the women progress to modern times, showing their knowledge of the lasting effects of Henry’s deeds.

Panelists praised the Tudor costume design as “authentic, layered and sumptuous.” The production as a whole was commended as “well-executed; “such young talent reinforces NKU’s solid future delivering graduates moving on to big things.”

ROYAL GAMBIT continues through November 4th. Tickets can be purchased at http://artscience.nku.edu/departments/theatre/boxoffice.html.

Final LCT awards will be determined at the end of the season and announced at the LCT gala in the spring.

The League of Cincinnati Theatres was founded in 1999 to strengthen, nurture and promote Cincinnati’s theatre community. LCT provides its member companies and individual members with education, resources and services to enhance the quality and exposure of the theatre community in Cincinnati and increase community awareness, attendance and involvement. NKU’s YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU Earns LCT Nomination

Panelists for the League of Cincinnati Theatres (LCT) have recognized Northern Kentucky University’s production of YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU with an LCT nomination for featured actress (Abby Wagner) as well as distinguishing it as a recommended production.

YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU is one of the most popular and successful plays of modern times, delighting audiences since 1936. This Pulitzer Prize winning comedy celebrates non-conformity as a man from a family of rich snobs becomes engaged to a woman from a good-natured but decidedly eccentric family. One dinner party and their families’ differences ignite!

Panelists commended Abby Wagner, who played the balletically-challenged daughter Essie, for her “dazzling, loony choreography” who had “the audience in stitches” with her contortions. Many thought she was the best Essie they have seen performed. Panelists recommended the production as a whole, saying the show “rendered the benign anarchy that reigns in the Sycamore household with a terrific ensemble cast” who had “spot-on comic timing”.

YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU continues through October 7th. Tickets can be purchased at http://artscience.nku.edu/departments/theatre/boxoffice.html.

Final LCT awards will be determined at the end of the season and announced at the LCT gala in the spring.
