PURPLE PAINT – Cincinnati Playwrights Initiative staged reading | Tue., Sept. 9 | Aronoff Center – Fifth Third Bank Theater

Appalachian Family Subject of
Cincinnati Playwrights Initiative Presentation

CPI_logoCINCINNATI, OH – A Depression-era Appalachian family struggles to survive and maintain dignity in Bridget Eaton Ossmann’s PURPLE PAINT, Cincinnati Playwrights Initiative’s (CPI) staged reading on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, 7:30 p.m.  at the Aronoff Center for the Arts’ Fifth Third Bank Theater.

Tickets for PURPLE PAINT are $8.00 and are currently on sale at www.CincinnatiArts.org, (513) 621-ARTS [2787], and the Aronoff Center Ticket Office.  Tickets may also be purchased at the Fifth Third Bank Theater the night of the show (September 9).

Fourteen-year-old burn victim Maddie O’Connor records her family’s history-in-the-making, much the way Francie Nolan chronicles the Nolans in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.  Unlike feckless Johnny Nolan, though, Maddie’s miner dad is hard-working, serious and, in the face of formidable odds, ambitious, seeking the chance to become a farmer.

Playwright Ossmann, a Hamilton/Fairfield native and Miami University alumna, has mastered virtually all phases of theatre, from composition of words and music to directing and performing.  She is also skilled at backstage tasks such as set design, lighting and sound.

Ossmann’s Words in the Air will be workshopped at the Fairfield Arts Center during the 2014-15 season.
