Tevye, a poor milkman, lives with his wife Golde, and their five daughters. He wants what all parents want for their children: a better life. One after the other, Tevye’s daughters stray from tradition. They risk their futures with husbands of their own choice, doing that pesky thing people do called following their hearts. Winner of nine Tony Awards including Best Musical, Fiddler on the Roof features timeless songs like “Matchmaker, Matchmaker,” “Sunrise, Sunset,” “If I Were a Rich Man,” and a universal story of family, love, and tradition. Sung in English with projected lyrics.

Cincinnati Opera Launches Free Ticket Initiative for Students in Grades 7–12

The new deal is in addition to Pay What You Wish tickets and $16 tickets for other full-time students, enhancing opera’s accessibility for all

CINCINNATI (June 25, 2025)—Cincinnati Opera is proud to announce a new student access initiative designed to welcome and inspire the next generation of opera lovers. Thanks to a generous donation, students entering grades 7–12 (including 2025 high school graduates) are invited to attend select performances during the company’s 2025 Summer Festival free of charge.

Eligible students may reserve up to two free tickets per person in any available seating area for the following performances at Music Hall:

Tosca
Music by Giacomo Puccini
Libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa

  • Thursday, June 26 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 28 at 7:30 p.m.

Free tickets are available for a limited time, so early purchase is encouraged. Proof of eligibility is required at the time of ticket pickup.

Expanded Access for All Audiences

In addition to the free ticket initiative for middle and high school students, Cincinnati Opera continues its commitment to accessibility with the following offers:

$16 Student Tickets:
All full-time students, including those in college and graduate school, may purchase up to two tickets for $16 each during the week of a performance, subject to availability. Students may purchase in person, online, or via phone, and a valid student ID is required for pickup.

Pay What You Wish Tickets: 
Cincinnati Opera’s recently launched Pay What You Wish (PWYW) program allows audience members to name their own ticket price for select performances. PWYW tickets are available starting at 12:01 a.m. the day of the show for select performances and continue until 5:00 p.m. Guests may purchase in person, online, or via phone and pay any price starting at $16 per ticket. (The recommended price is $55 per ticket.) There is a limit of four tickets per household.

Cincinnati Opera opened its 2025 Summer Festival on June 12 and 14 with Giuseppe Verdi’s heartbreaking tragedy Rigoletto. Floria Tosca suspects her lover of being unfaithful when really, he’s helping an escaped political prisoner and friend. This misunderstanding mutates into a series of escalating and irreversible misfortunes once Baron Scarpia, the chief of the secret police, enters the scene. Set in Rome during a time of national upheaval, as Napoleon’s army marches on Italy, Puccini’s epic opera stands as one of the most enduring and beloved of all time. Whatever darkness or desires Scarpia may bring, there is nothing Tosca will not do for art and love. Sung in Italian with projected English translations.

Featuring iconic arias like “Caro nome” and “La donna è mobile,” Verdi’s masterpiece sees Rigoletto become intimately familiar with the dangers of careless love, misguided vengeance, and the inescapable lesson that, under no circumstances, can you fool fate. Sung in Italian with projected English translations.

Cincinnati Opera Announces the Return of OPERA GOES TO CHURCH

Presented in partnership with local congregations, performances take place June 3, 4, and 5, blending opera, gospel, and jazz to create an inspiring celebration of music and community 


CINCINNATI (March 19, 2025)—Cincinnati Opera is delighted to announce the return of its popular performance series, Opera Goes to Church!, coming to area churches this June. Presented in partnership with three local congregations—Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church, Southern Baptist Church, and New Jerusalem Baptist Church—Opera Goes to Church! blends gospel, jazz, and classical music to create a one-of-a-kind, dynamic community concert experience. Performances will feature acclaimed opera artists, inspiring congregational choirs, local musicians, and more. See below for details.

Experience an unforgettable musical journey with Opera Goes to Church!, a powerful fusion of gospel, jazz, and classical music presented in partnership with local congregations. This uplifting 90-minute concert hosted by WLWT-TV’s Courtis Fuller features world-renowned opera singers, dynamic church choirs, and exceptional local musicians, creating an inspiring community celebration of the transformative power of music.

CINCINNATI (April 9, 2025)—Cincinnati Opera has announced the cancellation of its June 4 presentation of Opera Goes to Church! at Southern Baptist Church due to a scheduling conflict. Existing ticketholders will be offered tickets for other 2025 Opera Goes to Church! events or refunds of their ticket fees.

Other previously announced Opera Goes to Church! events will continue as scheduled.
