Cincinnati Opera Announces New Board Officers, Trustees, and Associate Members

CINCINNATI (Oct. 7, 2024)—Cincinnati Opera announces the election of officers for its board of trustees for the 2024-2025 fiscal year, as well as the addition of nine trustees and two Cincinnati Opera Board Associates.

Officers were elected at Cincinnati Opera’s Annual Meeting on September 18, 2024, and will serve one-year terms. They include:

  • President Ronald T. Bates, Managing Director, 1919 Investment Counsel
  • Chair Melanie M. Chavez, Partner, Chavez Properties
  • Treasurer Robert Bitter, Partner, Deloitte & Touche
  • Secretary Charles E. Baverman III, Partner, Dinsmore & Shohl

Also as of the Annual Meeting, new trustees and new members of the Cincinnati Opera Board Associates, a subsidiary of the board of trustees composed of young professionals, began their three-year terms.

New trustees include:

  • Aine Baldwin, Senior Attorney, The Kroger Co.
  • Onassis Caneris, M.D., interventional pain management specialist, Riverhills Neuroscience
  • Kristy Davis-Mustain, Employee Engagement and Internal Communications Manager, Johnson & Johnson MedTech

Cincinnati Ballet Presents GISELLE, Oct. 31-Nov. 3

Just in time for Halloween! Ballet’s most beloved ghost story at haunted Music Hall  

CINCINNATI, OH (October 7, 2024) – Cincinnati Ballet presents Giselle at Music Hall, October 31 – November 3. The romantic tale with a supernatural twist tells the story of Giselle, a kind peasant girl with a weak heart who falls in love with Albrecht, a noble person in disguise. When his betrayal is discovered, it sets off a tragic chain of events that brings forth the iconic and vengeful ghosts known as the Willis.

Hailed as the most romantic classical ballet of all time with choreography from Devon Carney, Giselle is considered a masterwork in the classical canon that is both haunting and beautiful. With music from composer Adolphe Adam performed live by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, staged in the spectacular Music Hall, also hailed as one of the most haunted concert halls in America. A truly Cincinnati production, performances will also feature local arts lovers and social media influencers in the roles of the royal family, young performers from Cincinnati Ballet’s Otto M. Budig Academy, and a gorgeous Borzoi dog named Anya, who auditioned for and won the role of the hound of the hunt!

Magnolia Theatre Company Presents WHAT THE CONSTITUTION NEEDS TO ME, Oct. 17-20

Magnolia Theatre Company is proud to announce the cast of WHAT THE CONSTITUTION MEANS TO ME by Heidi Schreck. A winner of two Tony Awards and a Pulitzer Prize finalist, WHAT THE CONSTITUTION MEANS TO ME tells the story of fifthteen year old Heidi, who worked her way to earning her college tuition by winning Constitutional debates across the United States. In this witty and hopeful new play, she brings forth her teenage self to trace the relationships of women between four generations.

The role of Heidi Schreck will be played by Magnolia Theatre Company founder Gina Handy, Robb Willoughby as Legionnaire/Danny, and Shay Roth, Ja’Nya Lewis, Meg Adams, Atlas Kessinger, and Sierra Jobman as the Debater. The Debater role will be played by a different student at each performance.

Magnolia Theatre Company is a part of the Community Spotlight program at Dayton Live, and will be performing at the PNC Arts Annex, 46 W. 2nd St, Dayton, OH 45402, October 17-20, 2024.

Tickets start at $12 for students, and discounts are also available for military, seniors and educators. A panel discussion around the topics addressed in the show will be held after both matinee performances.

Anderson and Turpin Theatres Collaborate on the Musical CHICAGO: Teen Edition This October

AHS_ChicagoChicago is a legendary, Tony award-winning musical about fame, fortune and acquittal. Set in the roaring 20’s, it tells the story of Roxie Hart, a young woman starved for fame who murders her lover and ends up behind bars. There she meets vaudeville performer and fellow inmate Velma Kelly, along with a collection of accused murderess all vying for the spotlight, the headlines, and their ticket to freedom.

Made into a movie in 2002 which won 6 Academy Awards, Chicago features iconic choreography by Bob Fosse and show-stopping musical numbers like “All that Jazz” and “Cell Block Tango.” Chicago is a masterful, musical commentary on American celebrity culture. In this production—adjusted by the published for school-age audiences and performers—students from both Anderson and Turpin high schools will wow audiences with a dazzling performance that is not to be missed.
