RUBBERBAND Runs Feb. 3-4

MDT_Rubberband promoRUBBERBAND
Mutual Dance Theatre
Feb. 3-4
Aronoff Center Jarson-Kaplan Theater [Downtown]

Mutual Dance Theatre is proud to present the Cincinnati premiere of RUBBERBAND, coming to us from Montreal, Canada.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, the child of Mexican parents, artistic director Victor Quijada founded RUBBERBAND in 2002. The troupe is known in Canada and abroad as an explosive, one-of-a-kind ensemble, combining the energy of Hip Hop, the refinement of classical Ballet, and the angular quality of Contemporary Dance.

RUBBERBAND’s mixed repertory performance in Cincinnati will feature a collection dubbed “Vic’s Mix,” a “best-of” selection spanning Quijada’s immense creative territory. In an orchestrated clash of urban pop and classical composition, Quijada defies notions of theatricality and audience expectations. All the while, the physically engaging, highly athletic dance works exemplify Quijada’s signature RUBBERBAND method.

The former MamLuft&Co. Dance member Gabriel Martinez says ROJO (meaning, red) is “related to love, emotion, and passion; warm and contradictory; dramatic and powerful.” Martinez has trained and performed in Mexico, Germany, North Carolina, Virginia, and of course, Ohio.

NIGHTCAP by Glenda Nideai De Abreu Figueiredo
NIGHTCAP brings audiences into the sitting room of a woman experiencing her final night, alone. Moments — both light and dark — come for their last drinks. The Brazilian choreographer is a former aerialist and dancer of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.
