Post Fringe: Day 10 (Friday)

On Friday evening, the final performances of CECILY AND GWENDOLYN’S FANTASTICAL CINCINNATI ANTHROPOLOGICAL INQUISITORIAL PROBE and ON HER PILLOW both sold out. RADIO STAR and THE SWEET, BURNING YONDER had sold out days in advance.

As of 11pm on Friday night, the only performance sold out for Saturday is DON’T CROSS THE STREAMS: THE CEASE AND DESIST MUSICAL. Tickets remain for all other performances.

“Style It” beat out “Shave It” by only $12 in this year’s Save it, Shave it or Style it campaign.

A final reminder: Today (Saturday), PROMPTLY at 12:30pm, artists, staff, volunteers and audience members are invited to join the Cincy Fringe 2012 Group show in front of the Fringe Mural.

The Pick of the Fringe Award Winners will be announced tonight beginning 11pm in the Know Underground.

Post Fringe: Day 9 (Thursday)

A schedule update: Saturday’s special event, FRINGE DOCUMENTED has been cancelled.

A reminder that Friday’s final performance of THE SWEET, BURNING YONDER has sold out.

Also sold out is Saturday’s final performance of DON’T CROSS THE STREAMS: THE CEASE AND DESIST MUSICAL. Congratulations to the cast and crew for selling out all five performances at the biggest venue of the Fringe.

If you missed the Cincinnati run, you may have another chance this summer. The organizers of the Indianapolis Fringe Festival (running Aug. 17-26) have invited DON’T CROSS THE STREAMS to perform. It would require a bit of re-working to meet the Indy Fringe’s 60-minute time limit if the scheduling would work out. I’ll share updates as I receive them.

Following Friday’s Channel Fringe Hard-Hitting Action News Update, the results of the Save it, Shave it or Style it campaign (aka the fate of Liz Borntrager’s hair) will be revealed.

It’s still not too late for you to get a taste of the 2012 Cincinnati Fringe Festival. Performances continue through Saturday.

STORMS BENEATH HER SKIN presented by Rebecca Kling as part of the 2012 Cincinnati Fringe Festival. You can read the show description here.

Rebecca Kling greets the audience onstage as they enter, preferring to interact with the patrons before the performance (as she gets lonely backstage 🙂 .  This one-woman show offers a personal, open and frank discussion of what it means to be transgender.

Kling is comfortable on stage and does a great job of keeping the audience engaged. The tone is mostly light, but Kling does touch upon the personal pain, both internal and external, that transgenders have to endure.

To help keep the performance personal and conversational, I wouldn’t mind having Kling commit more of the show to memory. The reading of several pieces, at times, served as a barrier between the performer and the audience.

A Q&A session follows as time allows. At the performance I attended, the audience was very involved in the talkback.

Overall Kling offers a heartfelt and interesting performance. She also provides a comfortable atmosphere to discuss a topic that is outside many people’s experience. Hopefully, the audience walks away with new insight and understanding.

As reported earlier this week, the final performance of RADIO STAR on Friday at 7:15pm has sold out. There will be a limited number of “standing room only” tickets available. These are only available in person at the venue beginning 30 minutes before the performance.

As of 11pm Wednesday night, tther than the sold out final performance of THE SWEET, BURNING YONDER, there were tickets (although in limited supply for some productions) available for all remaining shows. Again, advance purchase of tickets is highly recommended.

Dewey Chaffee and Douglas McGeoch, the cast of THE SCREW YOU REVUE, will be joining OTRImprov for THE CHRONICLE. THE CHRONICLE is OTRimprov’s take on the Armando Diaz Experience. The Armando Diaz is long-form improvisation created at improvOlympic Chicago, where a special guest shares personal stories based on an audience suggestion that weave into scenes inspired by their monologues.  The one-time only performance is tonight (Thursday) at 7pm.

This Saturday, PROMPTLY at 12:30pm, Know plans to commemorate the 2012 Cincy Fringe with a photo. Artists, staff, volunteers and audience members are invited to join the Cincy Fringe 2012 Group show in front of the Fringe Mural.
