Synopsis
“Silent Sky” is a play by Lauren Gunderson that tells the true story of Henrietta Leavitt, an astronomer who made groundbreaking discoveries at the Harvard College Observatory in the early 1900s. Despite not being allowed to touch telescopes or express original ideas, Henrietta, along with other female “computers” at the observatory, made significant contributions to our understanding of the universe, including discovering a way to measure the distance to distant stars. The play explores Henrietta’s dedication to science, her relationships with her sister and colleagues, and the challenges she faced as a woman in a male-dominated field.
Directed by Becky Collins and produced by Micheal Kiser.
