The Drama Workshop, led by director Dennis Murphy and musical director Linda Abbott, will hold a second round of auditions for the musical DEAR WORLD on Monday, Jan 29. The auditions begin at 7 pm with doors opening at 6:30 for sign ups. Auditions will be held at the Glenmore Playhouse, 3716 Glenmore Ave. Cheviot, OH 45211.
The production is still in need of 3 middle-aged men, and 1-2 younger men. There are also still roles available for women. One character is mute, playable by any gender. We’d like to cast someone for that role who knows ASL, but someone willing to learn would be good too!
DEAR WORLD has music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, famous for such musicals as Hello, Dolly!, Mame and La Cage au Folles. Book is by Lawrence and Lee.
Based on a play called The Madwoman of Chaillot by Jean Giraudoux, the plot follows the eccentric Countess Aurelia and her struggles against the straitlaced authority figures in her life. She and her cohort defend their Parisian neighborhood against scheming and corrupt developers. The forces of idealism, love, and poetry win over those of greed, materialism, and science.
Performances for DEAR WORLD will be May 3 thru 19, 2024.
An accompanist will be provided for auditions. Please bring sheet music in your key with cuts clearly marked. Also bring a headshot and resume, and any conflicts February 1 through May 19, 2024.
