Frederick Knott’s thriller WAIT UNTIL DARK opens Actor’s Theatre’s 2019-20 season.
The story involves a blind woman preyed upon by three cons searching for a lost doll containing a couple pounds of heroin. The play was adapted to a 1967 film starring Audrey Hepburn, Alan Arkin, Richard Crenna, and Jack Weston.
The show runs weekends October 4-13.
Auditions will be Monday and Tuesday, August 19 and 20 at 7:00 P.M. at the theater.
Director Jim Lockwood will be looking for actors to fill the following roles:
- Susy – 20s-30s well-adjusted blind woman, who lost her sight in an automobile accident. Moves about her apartment and the city fearlessly
- Mike Talman – 30s-40s Ex-con, recently out of prison, pretends to be an old friend of Suzy’s husband.
- Sgt. Carlino – 30s-40s Ex-con, recently out of prison, masquerades as a police sergeant.
- Harry Roat – 40s mastermind of a criminal operation, will stop at nothing, even murder. Also masquerades as Harry Roat Sr., about 70.
- Sam – 30s, a professional photographer and Susy’s devoted husband who presses her to become the ‘world’s champion blind woman’.
- Gloria – a twelve-year-old neighbor girl, a sometime helper to Susy. Upset by her father’s recent departure, she sometimes willfully acts out.
- Policemen (2) – actual NYC policemen who arrive too late to battle Susy’s tormentors.
Auditions will consist of readings from the script.
Actor’s Theatre at 23 E. Main St., Fairborn, Ohio 45324 began life as a movie theater, but has a theatrical history going back to 1969. It is being lovingly restored and improved by owner/actor/director Jim Harworth.
