Synopsis
Three sisters have gathered in their small Mississippi hometown awaiting news of their grandfather who is dying in a local hospital: Lenny, unmarried, Meg, a failed singer and Babe, on bail having shot her husband. Their troubles, which are grave yet somehow hilarious, are highlighted by their cousin Chick, Doc Porter and Babe’s lawyer who is trying to keep her out of jail while waging a personal vendetta against her husband. But the play ends on a joyful note with the three sisters re-united celebrating Lenny’s birthday.

Cast – 4 Women, 2 Men

  • LENNY – The eldest sister is facing her 30th birthday amidst the scandal of her youngest sister being charged with shooting her husband and the hospitalization of her grandfather who has been in her care. She is sensitive, a caretaker, responsible, and yearns for love in her life.
  • MEG – The middle sister, 27, has left her childhood home— and her boyfriend— behind to pursue a singing career. Branded the wild child, Meg uses her bravado to cover the intense pain of her childhood. She is brash, expressive, sarcastic, and a truth-teller.
  • BABE –  The youngest sister just shot her husband “because she just didn’t like his looks.” At 24, she is still the baby of the family, a bit naive, and sweet. She is innocent, inspires others to take care of her, and is nearly childlike in her view of the world.
  • CHICK – The cousin next door, 30-ish, is the relative everyone has and no one wants around. She is judgmental, a social climber, and meddles in family.
  • DOC PORTER – Meg’s former love, now married, walks with a limp. Sensitive, strong, and just a little vulnerable, Doc, 27-30-ish, is a friend to the family.
  • BARNETTE LOYD – A young lawyer, 26-30-ish, is determined to represent Babe. He is driven, quiet, young, and tender with Babe.
