FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (CINCINNATI, Oct 13, 2015) – Xavier University Theatre kicks off its 2015-‐16 season with THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE. Performances will take place in Xavier’s Gallagher Student Center Theater on Oct. 22-‐24 at 7:30 pm, with a 2:00 pm matinee showing on Oct. 24.

THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE is the story of a group of socially awkward kids finding joy, heartache and a purpose competing at the regional spelling bee. Winner of the Tony and Drama Desk awards for best book, THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor. Featuring a fast-‐paced, wildly-‐funny and touching book by Rachel Sheinkin and a fresh and vibrant score by William Finn, this bee is one unforgettable experience.
“I love that Xavier Theatre is doing this production because its family-‐friendly, funny and entertaining, but also offers a deeper meaning about how difficult it is to grow up and to find acceptance as an individual, especially a kid,” says Alex Roberts, who plays Olive in the production. “As an actor, it’s a great opportunity to look back on when we were this age, and to connect to some of the issues that we faced, and then portray those through this unique and special group of children.” In addition to Roberts, the cast for THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE includes Katie Bauer as Marcy, Sean Burlingame as Conybear, Cassie Delicath as Rona, Kalie Kaimann as Logainne, Tyler Kuhlman as Chip, Justin Lee as Barfee, Eric Minion as Panch and Hannah Sheppard as Mitch.
The creative team for THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE includes costume designer Gordon DeVinney, sound designer Chuch Hatcher, set and lighting designer David Zlatic and props designer Nicole Santiago. The show is music directed by Scot Buzza, choreographed by Dee Anne Bryll and directed by Stephen Skiles.
