SATURDAY THE 14TH
By Lauren Hynek & Elizabeth Martin
directed by Elizabeth Martin
People say it’s Friday the 13th you gotta watch out for. But it’s Saturday the 14th that really sucks balls.
Mitch and Gail are each having the worst Valentine’s Day. Ever. To top it off, they’re both trying to commit suicide by jumping off the very same spot on the very same bridge, and there’s not enough room for the both of them.
With no jumping room and nothing left to lose, they team up to cross a few things off their bucket lists before taking the final plunge.
Along the way, they find adventure, understanding, and maybe even love.
The hit romantic comedy from Know’s summer Serials! season is back! Reconstituted from six 15 minute episodes, and featuring some brand new material, Saturday the 14th is now a continuous one-act play in a limited run of four performances.
Miranda McGee and Nik Pajic return as brokenhearted Gail and Mitch, joined by Know favorite Chris Wesselman, who plays all the remaining characters.
Co-writer Elizabeth Martin returns to Know Theatre to stage the play. Martin previously directed We Will Rise: Selections from The Afghan Women’s Writing Project (which she and Hynek curated) for the Know in 2012 and 2014.
“Audiences really loved these characters in Serials! this summer, and got a big kick out of following their adventures week to week. And when we realized that Valentine’s day 2015 fell on a Saturday, bringing Saturday the 14th back was a natural choice,” says Artistic Director Andrew Hungerford. “I’m also really excited that plays can graduate from our Serials! program to have a further life and be shared with a wider audience.”
“Happy f***ing Valentine’s Day,” say playwrights Martin and Hynek. They add, “Wait, don’t actually put that in the press release.”
Whether you’re happily coupled or flying solo, there’s no better way to celebrate/curse Valentine’s Day than with Saturday the 14th.
