Created, designed and performed by local artists, this play tells the story of a happily married straight woman and gay man who shoot their crying infant because it was distracting them from some uncommonly good sex. It is certainly dark, extremely funny and undoubtably irreverent. This play examines the power and unpredictability of true love, while pegging it against the destructive lure of media attention, fame and widespread public acceptance. And just to keep things moving along there’s plenty of swearing, sex, cross-dressing, drug use and electrocution for everyone to enjoy.

When famed author, Edgar Allen Poe (Emily Windler), washes ashore on a deserted island with the bungling fool, Cornelius Mathews (Brian Kuwabara), hilarity ensues. Poe undergoes the eight stages of grief as his sanity wanes. An absurd clown show filled with slapstick comedy, sly wit, charm, and 80’s hits. It’s “Laurel and Hardy Waiting for Godot” (Kings River Life).

Petunia, an indomitable immigrant girl determined to tame the wild land around her, meets Chicken, a right smart boy with dreams of great adventures. As the joys of their youth give way to the harsh realities of adulthood, they struggle to stay together. Sprawling fields of wheat, bustling train stations, rain-soaked kisses, wind-blown hair, and the rest of Petunia and Chicken’s world are brought to life with imagination, movement, and song.

Two artists are subjected to a normal yet abnormal situation. What they think is an audition is a reality television show purely focused on the ratings. These characters all struggle with their own understanding of art and where their own opinions reside. The fate of spring is in their hands, it will take a brave soul to fight for its survival. One may rise to earth or fall into the trap of Hades. A twisted reality sure to change your perspective, but of course that’s your prerogative.

CiCLOP, the Cincinnati Composers Laptop Orchestra Project, performs a live score to Rick Prelinger’s 2004 film Panorama Ephemera, a collage of sequences drawn from industrial, advertising, educational and amateur films. The films’ often-skewed visions construct an American history filled with horror and hope, unreeling in familiar and unexpected ways.
